The Raiders cut veteran cornerback David Amerson on Monday in a move that saves $6 million in salary-cap room but doesn’t save general manager Reggie McKenzie from notching another tally in the mistake column. Amerson, 26, was somewhat of a revelation in 2015 when the Raiders claimed him off waivers from Washington two games in

Time to move on from Sean Smith, Lynch,Newhouse and Penn as well and despite Carr in interview sounding unsure of Crab’s future I recall when Gruden did Raider game saying something like 15 and 87 were best players on offense, I mean he’s one of few actual playmakers we have on team . I could see him hanging on , I hope so at least never wanted him after his actions at draft but I love the guy now , plus his interviews are hilarious . A few better options at corner in free agency than we have now Will be interesting to see the approach to free agency Coach Gruden always loved vets and Reggie for the most part invests in under 30 players .

Agree with all those moves, including the thought on keeping Crabtree. Jon Gruden will keep Crabtee, but only after feeling him out and making sure he is on board with the new regime and not making it pay for any sins, real or perceived, committed by the Jack Del Rio regime. You don’t throw away a No. 2 receiver with Crabtree’s ability unless you have no other option. The Raiders can make it work. Again, Gruden won’t hesitate to dump Crabtree if he senses a potential issue.

Crab was a great signing for us up until this year. He has been solid but the nonsense with Talib (leave your chains in the locker room) and taking himself out of games may be the end of his run here, would love to see Laundry take that spot.

Is McKenzie still the GM? Isn’t the GM the guy who has final say over the roster? I mean, Gruden hasn’t even been on a practice field with these guys yet, so how would he know Amerson needed to be cut? Plus what’s the point of paying RM if JG is doing his job?

Btw, TJ Carrie was a 7th Rd pick who has very much outplayed his draft position, Bartell and Spencer were signed as basically just cheap bodies to fill out the roster since RM didn’t have the money to sign who he wanted (plus nobody decent wanted to play for Oakland), and Hayden has gone on to be a solid CB for Detroit (or at least that’s what Lions fans tell me).

To be fair, most of RM’s picks have been subjected to some pretty terrible coaching, pretty much forced into doing jobs they’re not built for, ie Smith vs Cooks, bump and run CB’s being forced to play zone, etc.

There’s no way to know how good RM’s picks have been until they have at least competent coaching/scheming, and thankfully they’ll have that now. We’ll finally get to see Kujo, Lee, Ward, MEjr, McGill, Obi, MACK, and Conley playing to their strengths rather than against them.

One thing the previous coaching staffs and Reggie have failed miserably at is to recognize the importance of the slot position whether that be receiver or corner. If you look at the teams in this league that are successful they know this and use it to their advantage just like the damn patriots but not us we put a receiver who was a beast at Alabama when he played in the slot on the outside so he can be double covered.
