This is inspired by my partner, Steve Corrkan’s previous work about the easiness of the 2018 Oakland Raiders schedule based upon 2017 results. Just three of the Raiders’ 2018 opponents made the playoffs last season: Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s four games (just a quarter of the season) and three

Carr, Mack, Irvin, Coop (w/Gruden tutalage), Cook, and a top 5 OL make the Raiders better then an 8-8, let alone with an easy schedule and elite coaching. Poor coaching is the only reason they finished with a losing record last year, with a tough schedule.

      Jesse,

You can make that point, sure. Remember, the Raiders might be letting go of Michael Crabtree, Sean Smith, Marshawn Lynch, NaVorro Bowman, Donald Penn and others from the roster you are envisioning right now. If those players go, there’s the process of finding players at least as good, if not better. That’s easier said than done, too. But, yes, the potential is there for the Raiders to finish better than 8-8, for sure.

Its way to early for any of this, but, as you stated, could be fun.

Eight wins, for an entirely new staff, can be a great feat. My guess is that Gruden will see that as a failure. He always expects to win, no matter the circumstance.

Without knowing anything that will go on from here forward this offseason, that sounds about right. But, I will give us one more win, I think we either beat the chargers at home and away or split with kc. 9-7

I think the Raiders are closer to 2016 12-4 version than last years 6-10. The difference in any game has a lot to do with coaching, gameplan, how personnel is handled etc and I strongly think the locker room crumbled after a good season.

A key factor will be defense, if the defense takes a step forward under Paul Gunther and the offense can be consistent under Gruden (and I think both will happen) we’re better than 8-8. Of course this is a new staff, new scheme and there will be new players so may take a few weeks to gel.

I understand Raiders have a lot to prove but I’m very optimistic simply because:
    Gruden>Del Rio/Downing
    Gunther>Norton/Pagano

    11 – 4

I think we will be at least 10-6 this year and even as bad as they looked this past year with one of the hardest schedules in the league, one of the worst set of coordinators I have ever seen, a quarterback playing with a 3 broken bones in his back and a head coach that lost the locker room we still managed to win 6 games and could have easily won 9 or 10. Dallas game index card away from win, first Denver game horrible non pi call on Cook in the end zone, first charger game missed extra point, and the philly and buffalo games we weren’t out classed in those games we just couldn’t hold onto the ball. I guess my point is that we have the talent we just need better coaching and scheme to makes us more successful oh and yes catch and hold onto the ball.
