Judging by the way wide receivers are getting paid, Raiders top wideout Amari Cooper has nothing to worry about on the heels of a disappointing season in 2017 except returning to form next season. If he does, he is going to set himself up for a huge payday. Cooper is slated to earn $7.2 million
Good article, guys.
Will the move to Vegas come at just the right time for the team to keep Cooper on a lower gross contract which actually puts more in his pocket because of no Nevada taxes?
On a similar point, would that thinking be upset by back-loading Mark’s deal for the same reason and having to think about renewing Osemele and Hudson – cap is going to need some really smart management and we will need some draftees to really step up in their first contracts to make this work: good luck Reggie!!
I would never pay big money for Amari Cooper. He has the worst hands in the league. We need to move on from that train wreck.
For as much as I like Cooper and was happy when we picked him, he has to stop with the dropsies.
Him dropping passes on easy completions is getting really old.
Unfortunately he might need a change of scenery. And I don’t mean Vegas. Some players just play better for their second team. It happens.
I hope Gruden can help him turn things around production wise. If he can have the type of production Tim Brown had under Gruden, that would be superb.
Cooper staying healthy would go a long way too.
As for paying him, I am not giving him a huge contract at this point for sure.
But being able to “massage” the cap and still keep good players is part of being a good GM. Not to mention signing key FAs when necessary.
Bill, you are assuming Cooper has a bounce back season?
I hope he does but I’d rather pay him then, earn though it will costly( versus paying him now coming off a mediocre season)
I do really like Cooper, but he is no where near elite–even if he has a “bounce back” season next season. He is a bit too passive for my taste. He does not seem to fight too hard for 50-50 balls or if the ball is intercepted try to tackle the DB.
