The Oakland Raiders have a need at receiver this year and there are two new intriguing names that may be available: The Bryant brothers.
Dez and Martavis. OK, they really aren’t siblings, but you can get away with this type of silly shit when you own your own website. Anyway, there is speculation out of Dallas that the Cowboys may cut Dez Bryant. There are reports that the Steelers will listen to trade offers for Martavis Bryant. Let’s look how each would fit with the Raiders:
Dez: Bryant is a big-time talent and that will likely get Jon Gruden’s attention. Yet, there are some red flags. He will be 30 this year and some scouts around the league have thought Bryant has been declining since 2016. He has dealt with a lot of injuries and he isn’t always the happiest of campers. He did play a full 16-game schedule in 2017, his first since 2014. He had 69 catches for 838 yards last season. Really, I’m not sure if Dez would be a big upgrade over Michael Crabtree, who could be released by Oakland.
Martavis: He is a big-play threat and I think Gruden could work him well into the offense. He could be a terrific No. 3 receiver for Oakland, and a nice pairing with Amari Cooper and Crabtree. He had 50 catches in 2017 and averaged 12.1 yards a catch. Derek Carr’s arm and Bryant’s legs would likely to have a harmonious relationship. Plus, the Raiders have a load of late-round picks, so there could be a trade fit. Yet, Bryant has had a suspension history and I’m not sure Gruden wants to deal with players like that as he begins this Oakland adventure.
Conclusion: Dez has more value, but I think Martavis would be the better fit among these two Bryants for Oakland. Will it a happen? Who knows, but there may be a fit here.
