Raiders head coach Jon Gruden isn’t one to sugarcoat things, which is one of the things that endeared him to late-owner Al Davis. So, when he says the Raiders have a lot of work to do, that isn’t a throwaway line. The question is, just how much work do the Raiders have to do to
Q for tomorrow Steve. : how soon before 14/3 can we expect to see our FA’s re-signed? Who do Raiders want back and what other teams FA’s are Gruden/Reggie targeting? As usual keep up the great work. Appreciate your time and efforts.
This turnaround is not going to be easy or immediate.
The G2 era has a long way to go before our Raiders are favorites to win the West, not to mention being a front runner for a SB title.
Even with all the turnover, we will have some of the same players we had last season. Our new coaches have to get more production from them and that can be a difficult task in itself.
Grudens playbook is not something you just skim over. Getting a handle on that monster is a huge undertaking for any QB. Carr struggled, hurt or not, with the so called minor changes in the playbook last season.
From the top down this will be a challenge. And its going to take some time for everything to gel.
In other words, we are not as close to winning a SB as we would like to be.
I agree with you Vet (although it pains me to do so!). I do think that this team is better than 6-10. Are they a 12-4 team? Probably not, but maybe they will surprise us? I do think that Gruden will make a difference in allowing players to succeed at what they do best (e.g. do not have Sean Smith cover the other team’s speedster).
Agreed. For whatever the reason, the team just did not seem to have the same energy this past season.
Effort is NOT going to be an issue under Gruden. You best be ready to work when you hit the building and field.
I do think our Raiders expected to win close games by default. The won so many of those games the year before. You cannot assume victories.
I think our coaching staff as a whole is better than last season. I believe they will get better results from the holdovers.
But all of that still has to be proven on the field.
Have you seen the video where Gruden is calling the play to that bewildered QB? He repeats it 20 times and the QB is still lost. I was lost as shit too, but I’m not a starting QB in the NFL.
Yes , that was a great video – I think Chris Simms was the QB who caught the Wrath of Gruden š
I recall another clip on youtube where Gruden broke down a crossing route from Gannon to Rice against the 49ers (guessing from 2001). He noted the reads the WRs and QB made, and the adjustments they made, to finalize the play. Very interesting….
Yet Raiders had a chance on Christmas Day to beat the Eagles!
Margin between winning and losing is razor thin
It seems to me that one of the biggest issues facing the Raiders, is the inability of the Raiders coaching staff to develop young players. You just can’t keep trotting out players that “Flash” here and there, but never consistently contribute to the teams success. The coaching staffs responsibility is to get these young players contributing by year 1 or 2, while they’re still relatively cheap. Hopefully, this new coaching staff will turn things around and start developing young players while Mack and Carr are still in their prime.
