Reggie McKenzie and Jon Gruden made moves Thursday that concerned five positions, but none addressed the Raiders’ most-pressing need: cornerback. There’s only so much they can get done in one day, though, and free agency is only two days old. On Friday, the Raiders will host Indianapolis Colts free agent Rashaan Melvin in hopes of

I’m actually really excited at the prospect of signing Melvin. Later bloomer is a good term to use to describe him. The past 2 years he’s steadily turned himself into a worthy cornerback.

I’m on board so far with free agency, I think that the draft is going to be a big part of our team next year. Do the Raiders go up in the draft? Go after the best corner and put a lot of faith in Conley? They could be kind of cool, they have the potential to have a very young and very talented secondary. They could re-sign Bowman and have at least a decent linebacking Corps. And defensive tackle would still be a weak link unless Eddie vanderdoes takes a big step forward. We still need depth and I think that might be an issue. I don’t know, just a thought.

Dexter McDonald and Antonio Hamilton are nothing but special team guys and emergency fill-ins at CB….nothing more. They need to find a way to sign Melvin one way or another because we’re lacking even 1 quality, legit starting CB right now. He’s no Marcus Peters, but he’s a legit starter and it’s looking like we’re going to have an extremely young group of DB’s after the draft and with Conley & Obi starting.

This guy is no slam dunk.

Never played an entire season. Very little production.

He has had good games and passes the eye test with flying colors.

He would not be the only questionable signing in recent years.

Remember RM has a spotty track record with CBs. Hopefully Ansley is the remedy.
