The Raiders traded wide receiver/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson and a sixth-round draft pick to the New England Patriots on Sunday in a move that nets the Raiders a fifth-round draft pick, That’s quite a bit to give up for the flexibility to draft one round earlier. What’s worse, if the Patriots were to go deep

Patterson was most valued as a gunner. As kickoffs are becoming de emphasized, his value as KR diminishes. He is also not a great route runner

I’m amazed Roberts is still with the team though

Patterson is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands. Probably the best kick returner in the league. Once again, I believe the Patriots got the best of this deal. The Raiders basically just moved up a few spots with the 5th round pick we swapped and dumped a few million dollars in cap space. Don’t like the move unless they use the money they saved wisely.

The draft pick is for this.year so the second paragraph makes no sense .

I reread this piece twice because that was my understanding. Plus, like time value of money, a 6th this year is worth more than a 6th next year.

Stupid! Even without giving them the 6th rounder it’s a steal for NE. You give up the best KR in the league to move up 20-25 spots in the draft? Getting those extra 15+ yards on a return is worth a lot. Getting the ball in CP’s hands and letting him fly is worth a lot, too. Moving up in the back-end of the draft is NOT worth a lot.

Why is Seth Roberts still on the roster. Please make him go away.

Have we ever got the best of a deal with the patriots? Patterson will probably get 1000 yards and 10 td’s with them.

The trade is not about draft picks.

Its about moving a player who Gruden felt was not a good fit. RM got what he could.

The money saved will be put to work elsewhere.

If we get a player who can be a PR, KR, Gunner and help at WR or CB in a pinch, we could be better off.

And that is what has been going on here since Gruden was hired. And it will continue until he gets his roster.

I agree with many though, I am surprised Roberts is still on the roster. I don’t get that one.
