Re-signing safety Reggie Nelson gives first-year defensive coordinator Paul Guenther someone to help teach the nuances of his scheme. Signing wide receiver Jordy Nelson did nothing more than offset the loss of released receiver Michael Crabtree. Cornerbacks David Amerson and Sean Smith are out, Rashaan Melvin and Shareece Wright are in to take their place.

With all due respect, this is a ridiculous idea. Look, slow down and take note of the teams who have won SB’s. How many of them have an elite set of WR’s? How many AFC titles and SB’s have the patriots won with WR’s most people have never even heard of before? You don’t need an elite set of WR’s to win in the NFL. A good offense, with the proper scheme and coaches can get it done, provided the defense can make some plays and get some stops. I would LOVE for them to make a trade or two, but on the defensive side of the ball. Go get a pocket-crushing DT, edge rusher or CB and pay him big money. Send a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick away for a guy who can get chit done on defense. McKenzie blows the top end of every draft anyway, so we might as well trade the pick for a known commodity!

People have to be willing to trade these players. They’re willing to trade or at least listen for OBJ.

Hmm, definitely would make me go “Wow!” I understand and respect your points, but is he worth the headache? Remember, the Raiders got rid of one headache in Crabtree–admittedly not the same type of player/talent. Are they willing to go get another one? My money is on McKenzie will not give up his draft picks, especially the first round one.

Terrible on every front, makes zero sense. Only thing is worse is knowing I actually paid to read this?

How is bringing in a player of that caliber terrible on every front? Okay yes he might be a headache but I think everybody is so sensitive to what he does. Do you think this last incident he had was really that bad? I don’t, I think it was stupid but not bad. It just gets blown up because it is him. Right now we have a 1st rd receiver in Coop who has yet to put in a consistent season in the NFL. We have a very tough choice with him coming up. After that we have a 33 yr old Jordy Nelson. OBJ has made some dumb decisions but I’m sure he’ll learn from them and get better. Just like he’s only going to become a better football player and that’s scary. Aren’t you tired of being mediocre? Aren’t you tired of being the same ol Raiders that blows draft picks? Let’s get some SURE talent in there and then get to work. OBJ might get into some trouble but we know what else he does do. He works his butt off and shows up to make plays on Sundays. I’m sorry but I’m tired of the offseason being my fun season. I’m tired of picking different teams in the playoffs. I’m tired of watching other teams make bold moves. Say what you want about Carson Palmer but the Cardinals got a lot out of him. Say what you want about Moss but the Pats got a lot out of him. My point is we’ve made those moves in the recent past we just didn’t have or wasn’t patient with the coaches. Now we have our coach so lets go get him some talent.

For me it has nothing to do with His off field stuff although it is an obvious factor. All fronts = 1. makes no sense to bankrupt the cap which considering what he will cost (18mil minimum) & our other up coming contracts (Cooper will be close to the same) so yes terrible from a cap front! I love Landry but same reason I didn’t want him.
        2. What do you think the actual draft pick/players cost would be? To much.
And then yes you do have to look at the off field/issues.
I’m all for elite talent but we just hired a coach that I believe will completely revamp & revitalize our offense. OT, WR & RB can be found in draft.
I would venture to bet Gruden would be the 1st to stand up and say terrible idea.
Like Jacksonville & Philly & old Seahawks, we need to make some impact talent on the defensive side of the ball. And Moss/Palmer not great examples at all since they plugged into good systems & Moss contract wasn’t astronomical for Pats was it. Our offense is easily capable of being top 10 as is. Take a look around league. Show me the dominant play off teams that were there because they bankrupted themselves for a super star offensive playe via trade? Philly, NO, Minn, Atl, Rams, Jags? Bills maybe with McCoy is as close as you get.

I’m sorry but why would you pay Coop that much money? What has Coop proved? Trade Coop to the Giants and the money you would be paying him you give to Odell. Mack is the only contract that is coming up that we really need to take care of.
How many draft picks have we hit on with Reg? If we throw Coop in there the draft pick total to give up moves down.
Off the field issues are what exactly? He partied when he wasn’t supposed to but didn’t break any team rules. He was smoking a little weed in the off season like everyone else? I’m not convinced that he’s so reckless and isn’t going to earn his pay. Yes he has done some dumb things but he is only 25!! Once again we are not hitting on these draft picks so what do you expect to find? And it doesn’t matter what systems Moss and Palmer went to when they left us. The point was that in recent history we took chances and made trades for these type of players. Because our coaching was inconsistent they didn’t work out. But now since we have a steady front office we should be alright in handling these situations better.
I’m not saying that we don’t need to look at the Defense and of course we need help on that side of the ball more. But you guys are not understanding that this type of talent doesn’t become available that often. If there was a defender that acts the same way, just as talented and cost as much as OBJ I would want to do the same thing. If you can get OBJ and Mack signed to an extension then you have to try to do it.
I just don’t trust this teams drafting or ability to land big name free agents. I also don’t trust Coop. So now where do we go? Wait for another 2014 draft where it just so happens to fall into our laps. It’s time to make moves

Can’t even track you, 1. We have good front office or can’t hit in draft? As far as Coop goes, I base it on what other NFL players, coaches & execs view him as. He cleans up his drops/focus & there is no doubt he’s elite. You don’t think so? May want to check the defensive scheme he sees every week geared to stop him. Now that have actual offensive coach/system we will see what Coop is worth. Coaching makes a difference! Goff & Gurley both went from bust talk (by ignorant people) to MVP caliber players, hmmmm? Cooper will show out. Conley was a great pick last yr. study drafts year in yea out of all nfl teams instead of just the Raiders & your perspective might be different. Haven’t agreed with all the picks by any means but not nearly as bad as portrayed. And will get better with solid scheme/coaching.
Back to original point though. As great as Beckham is the trade off would set us back. But regardless of either of our opinions only the coach & GM matter no way they bankrupt team for 1 player. Not how I see other teams building success.

I would do it. I would even trade Coop and our first round pick for him. Coop hasn’t proved he can play a whole year in this league yet and how often is a player like this available. What if Coop doesn’t break out this year? If he does there’s still no evidence that he’s going to be better than OBJ. You get him in there, lock him up and figure it out after that. I love my team but barring some Gruden miracle we’re not winning it this year. It looks like it’s going to take a few yrs at the rate their going. But being able to bring in a talent like that doesn’t pop up all of the time at such a young age. And it doesn’t have to set you back that much if you add in Coop. You can keep some of those draft picks and I don’t know maybe get a late pick. Raiders need something and pairing DC with OBJ for years to come would be down right crazy. I’m with it and I’d do whatever it took to get him. They could honestly go down as one of the best QB, WR duo’s ever. We stay young and get better. Then you trade your ass back into the first round to grab a young defensive prospect. Make some moves damn it. Be a progressive Franchise for once.

To piggyback on above comments, I respectfully disagree. The man is BEYOND talented, but breaking the cap, and giving away draft picks for one guy who is volatile, a locker room nightmare i don’t think vibes well with a Grudent led team, nor with McKenzie’s culture. Great player no doubt, but it’s the intangibles that will hurt our team. I just don’t think we have strong enough leadership, to prevent OBJ from becoming a headache.

Volatile? A locker room nightmare? I know he’s a diva but to my knowledge I’ve never heard that. Gruden has brought in veterans and will continue to do so while he is here. Right off the bat we have Jordy Nelson and his coach for years in Edgar Bennett. They’re already connected and OBJ would have to join their page and not the other way around. One thing I’m not worried about is him in the locker room. Maybe the money part of it but definitely not him in the locker room.

i like the coop and 1st rounder for obj. The guy is volatile, he is VERY emotional and is all over the place , from what I can see. The guy is also a HOF talent level player, i just dont see how having him come in at a BIG price tag helps in big picture. Our defense has a ton of holes, we need to spend money on, regarding the locker room, i think i over stepped there (thinking about TO). Personally I like OBJ, i just dont think he would be a good fit, UNLESS we actually draft well on the defensive side of the ball for a change.

You’re right the guy is very emotional and all over the place. I think in time he’ll figure that out though he’s only 25. But your last sentence is why I would move on him. We don’t draft well or sign big name free agents. So how else do we expect to get talent?

    A wow, yes.

    A good move, no.

This guy wants to be the highest paid player in the league.

Huge money for our OL. The money for Carr. You still have to pay our biggest player in Mack.

On top of all that, this guy will be wanting 30 million per season? He wants more than QB money.

2nd and 4th rounder like the peters deal and I’m in. Any type of first rounder and I’ll pass. Would be awesome to finally have an elite receiever. But we need our first round pick for a DT or LB badly.
