Bill, something you need to point out: any of the top 5 avail punters in the draft are not known for shanking punts, and averaging 45*+ yards/kick, with long of 75+ in a couple of instances. The top two punters would both cost less and produce 2-6 more yards per punt. If the Raiders are working a deal that requires more cap, then this is very wise. You dump a player who makes bonehead penalties overcelebrating. I thought king’s celebrations were funny, but they sometimes cost the team — picking up the flag was grounds for termination under Del Rio…
I don’t necessarily disagree, Scott.
I liked Marquette King as a punter. He was a bit silly and did some really dumb things (picking up the flag was one of them), but remember when he ran for a ton of yards to get the first down (it was 4th and 20+) against the Jags? I also recall him revering Ray Guy the day they had the HOF ceremony for Guy at the Coliseum. Although, I definitely wasn’t a fan of his messing around with Aquib Talib at the Pro Bowl. He wasn’t all bad.
