Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie had no intention of trading the No. 3 pick five years ago until the Miami Dolphins called while the Raiders were on the clock. As it turned out, McKenzie got the player he wanted at No. 3 nine picks later, while adding a second-round pick. It’s unlikely that McKenzie and

Please don’t let us get screwed by that damned coin flip!!

The best way to make good choices is to have good options. At 9 vs 10, there will be better options at 9 vs 10. Unfortunately, both the 49ers AND we have a similar profile of needs and temptations. And, they go first.

Those who believe that a kings ransom in picks is worth (most) any #10, will be on the edge of their seat when San Fransisco is on the clock and a QB is available.

With NE’s picks 23 and 31. Let’s say there appears a really good fit at #14 or thereabouts, and you want to move either 23 or 31 to 14. Some options if you believe in the relative draft spot values:

To try to move #23 of to #14, it would take #23 plus approximately #50 (late round 2) … or mid 3 + mid 4. (or thereabouts).

To try to move #31 to #14, it would take #31 + #40 (high in 2nd round) … or a couple higher 3’s or pretty high 3+4+5’s.

Can you get the Patriot’s two picks, plus enough boot (or almost enough boot) to move one of the picks to #14, or thereabouts? One of the coveted players could very well be available at 14, depending on secondary QB’s (Jackson? Rudolph?) get drafted in the 11-13 spot – we have that, as well as the perennial head scratching picks that could tumble some guys we really like to the mid teens.

Remember that RM stated after the draft that he would have taken Hayden at 3. How foolish would that have been know how it turned out.

If Minkah is there at 10, you take him and don’t look back.

Cork, I know you will say the same for Nelson.

Hard to argue with that. You draft that high – take your shot; hopefully you never get to draft that high again

But, the sphincters will tighten if those two guys are gone, but some pretty good players are left (like Roquan, Vea, Smith, McGlinchy). But so is the QB and NE comes calling. Do you swap out for NE’s two firsts and some boot, which you parlay into picks 14-ish, and 23?

In that scenario, can we manage to draft 3 starters in the first 2 rounds, and one more out of the rest of the draft? Four substantial upgrade starters, working for peanuts against the salary cap? Maybe a special teams or two ace while we’re at it?

I’m like you about picking the “can’t miss” guys when you have the chance to draft that high … . Guys like Gallery, McCLain, Cooper … etc. lol. That’s what makes in interesting.

Unfair to Amari. I actually believe Cooper will turn out to be a very good pick. But, a lot of others think he’s a bust.

Vet: do you invest a draft pick in a punter? Kicker?
