If you’re looking for an informed, intelligent take on college prospects, it’s wise to turn to those who grade them for a living. We did just that in an attempt to get a detailed breakdown of Raiders first-round draft pick Kolton Miller, as seen through the trained eyes of a long-time NFL scout. Former Raiders
That scouting report makes me feel better about the selection
It’s amazing how divergent opinions are
One note: Pete Prisco on CBS Sports said Miller was the drafts best tackle as well
Yeah, many of the so-called experts are going off what each other says or from hearing people talk about prospects. It pays to sift through the reports and focus upon the ones done by professionals that actually watched and studied the players, through trained eyes. Take care. — Cork
Hey Cork, love your work my man. This was a great idea. And great staff.
Thank you, Jasbir. That’s very nice of you to take the time to pass along. We love your support and participation. Remember, it takes a village to build this bully. Glad to have you on our side. — Cork
Many pundits and supposedly GM’s continue to be amazed on how little value the Raiders received from AZ in their trade down. They mention previous trades for a QB (KC/Mahomes) as examples of the value the Raiders should have been able to get. Maybe overtime you’ll be able to answer this mystery.. Did AZ play chicken and say this is our best offer take it or leave it.. If the reports are accurate, Miami probably would have scooped up Rosen if he had fallen to them so AZ had to know that 10 was the spot they needed to move to. But to only offer a 3 not a 2 is mind-boggling…
It seems like too little, but I think they got what was offered. The other choice was take nothing and stay put, so they took the 3 and kept going.
Great feedback, Benjamin. As I mentioned in the article I wrote about the Raiders not getting comparable value to what the Bucs did and other teams, it’s important to note that, if the Raiders had only one offer, then it’s a simple case of take it or leave it. It’s not as if the Raiders chose the worst of, say, five offers. Or turned down a better offer. They had one offer, decided it was worth it and jumped. End of story.
Also, as I wrote earlier, the Raiders were open to trading down for extra picks only once the 49ers picked OT Mike McGlinchey, who was Jon Gruden’s target all along. — Cork
I’m sure this is being addressed by you guys even as I type this – but now that Penn is being investigated for DV, this pick suddenly looks better still.
Even if the scouting report was a bad one on Miller, its not like you can go back and re-pick another player.
I hope Gruden is right.
Picked at 15 Miller should be the starting LT now.
Thanks for giving us that insight, Cork!! Makes me feel a bit better about the pick. Still, the range of opinions out there on various players really reinforces the idea that it is hard to draft these players and project them to the pro game. Sounds like Penn is going to be pushed this season. Amazing how much Gruden is changing a roster that was 12-4 a couple of years ago.
While I agree that the Raiders should have gotten “more” in trading down from 10 to 15, according to the draft trade chart the 10th pick is worth 1300 and the 15th 1050, a difference of 250. The 79th pick is worth 195 and the 152nd is worth 30.2 for a total of 225.2. It’s short of 250, and not what one would expect for a franchise first round QB, but not a total ripoff.

At first I was not thrilled about the pick to be honest so I went back and watched tape on this kid. My opinion has definitely changed I actually like the pick now this kid drives people down the field in the run game and for his height does an excellent job with his pad level. In the passing game he has the athletic ability to recover quickly and hold defenders off. Now as far as the trade goes everyone keeps referring to how much Buffalo gave up to draft Allen versus what Arizona gave up and it’s not because that we really got jacked it’s more that Buffalo was desperate for a quarterback and this is not the 1st time they have done so. Remember the 2014 draft when they moved up 4 spots to draft Watkins they gave up thier 2015 1st round pick to do that. All in all by trading down 5 spots we got the best receiver in the draft and it also allowed us to get the best interior pass rusher as well so I would say we did pretty well. Now the other thing I keep hearing is that we gave a 3rd round pick for a guy who if he balls out then we won’t be able to resign him making him a one year rental well I think people are forgetting that if that happens then we will get a compensatory pick for him in 2020 most likely a third at least a fourth.
