Raiders 2019 needs list is already growing

I don’t think any of us expected Jon Gruden to tear apart the Raiders’ roster as dramatically as he has. With a league-high 18 unrestricted free agents signed (and counting), nine more drafted, assorted other players brought in, many players cut and traded, it is safe to assume more than half of the 53-man roster

They are probably going to need another OT next year too. Penn will be gone – even if the two draft picks work out, the rest of those guys are suspect and Giacomini is old.

The hope is Brandon Parker is ready.

Yeah that makes sense but OT depth is poor even if Parker is starter-ready.

The need list this year was long and it will be next year also. The turnover will continue.

Look at history, not every FA or draft pick will work out.

Contract length means little at this point, except for dead money or a FA given a huge deal and turning out to be a complete bust.

Gruden has listened to his assistant coaches. OL, DL and STs has been a focus. You have to start somewhere.

Maybe next year he focuses on the list in the post.

Gruden also expects better results due to better coaching by himself and his staff.

Hopefully Grudens 3rd season will be the breakout. By then, with any luck, those key FAs and our drafted players will provide starters and plenty of depth throughout the roster.

After that, when a key need arises, it can be addressed via FA along with the draft if necessary.

This is a marathon not a sprint.

Then there’s the challenge of next years salary cap and what they can spend, given amount invested in Carr and Mack

We would technically have around 50 mil in cap next year. Carr already has his contract factored into that and Mack is getting around 13.5 mill this season. He’ll get paid around 20 mil hopefully next season so that would only be a 6.5 mil jump. That leaves us at, just say, 42 mil. That’s also including Donald Penns massive 10.5 mil, which will definitely be cut with no dead money. As well as Seth Roberts 4.5 mil, which will more then likely be cut or traded by then. Even Bruce Irvin is getting paid over 9 next year, so if he doesn’t perform this year he’s cut as well. The cap is actually looking really nice for next year
