LAKE TAHOE — Wednesday, we met with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Theismann at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship and we discussed many topics.
One, of course, was the Jon Gruden-Derek Carr pairing in Oakland that we wrote about. Joe was also kind enough to break down each opposing AFC West quarterback to help our readers.
Philip Rivers: Theismann said Rivers is not too far of from Tom Brady as a commander of an offense. He said Rivers is “vastly underrated” and he think he can still lead the Chargers to a Super Bowl in his late 30.
Patrick Mahomes: Like most folks, Theismann liked what he saw from Mahomes in his Week 17 performance against Denver. Theismann thinks Kansas City coach Andy Reid will be a perfect coach for Mahomes and he will help him grow physically and mentally. Oh, and Joe loves that cannon that hangs from Mahomes’ shoulder.
Case Keenum: Theismann said he think the free-agent addition was a solid get for Denver. He thinks Keenum can be a solid game manager for the Broncos. He doesn’t think Keenum will lose games for Denver.
“With those guys and Derek, it’s a strong division for quarterbacks,” Theismann said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
