Raiders head coach Jon Gruden bypassed a handful of top prospects before he finally decided to take a player in the first round of this year’s draft. He wanted Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey but ended up with UCLA’s Kolton Miller six picks after the 49ers beat Gruden to McGlinchey. There are those unsold
Why not groom a left tackle for a year , if need be ??
I like penn as our week one starter , if he’s good there go .
Sure be nice to have him lined up against Mack so we could see how far he really has to go.
Penn not being ready is worrisome.
If Miller earns the LT job, that would be awesome.
Hopefully Parker could do the same at RT and we have our bookends set for at least 4 years.
I agree with Patrick. Having Mack there helps make our OL better.
Mack would also be helping to teach Key.
Can we just pay the man and get him in the building. So tired of saying this.
Mack makes the entire team better.
Where are we if Penn gets cut and Miller gets hurt?
Are any of the other tackles even up to being called average?
With that bunch of tackles and the injury beast lurking every day, do you really cut Penn If Miller beats out Penn simply because Penn slipped a bit (but he’s healthy) and Miller outperforms a bit?
If I was Gruden, I wouldn’t place my faith on a starting rookie LT.
Miller needed grooming and was not deemed “plug and play” when drafted.
I hope Penn is the starter and Miller can watch. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I don’t want Miller flipping to RT. Place him at LT and leave him there. If he doesn’t start due to Penn, so be it.
However, that leaves the unsettled position of RT and Parker might be more a project than Miller.
The only reason to cut Penn now would be if the injury or age has put an end to his ability to play at a high level. If they were going to cut him, they would’ve done it months ago. Gruden and Reggie love Penn, and if we’ve learned anything about Chuckie, it’s that he loves his vets.
Starting a rookie left tackle in the AFC West is a recipe for disaster
