Photo by USA TODAY Well, Good Friday to you Raider Nation. Just when you were getting comfortable about the direction of your beloved franchise and excited about the mega-important draft that starts in just six days. Another bombshell hit out of nowhere. Naturally, there has been a lot of reaction to this report from Mike
If they could not trust the scouts, this move should have been made long ago.
If its just going to be the Gruden and Mayock, possibly MD too, in the draft room I doubt the scouts input is worth anything anyway, at least to them.
Did Gruden allow input last draft? Maybe he should have known at that point who could be trusted or not.
Get the picks right and this will not matter one damn bit.
I agree thankaveteran, just crush the draft and it won’t mean shit! There is no way this wasn’t planned, the media is looking to crush Gruden & the Raiders any chance they get. Your telling me we kept guys they couldn’t trust around all year and now they get rid of them? No way. I believe they don’t want any leaks to the press. Just draft smart! We have been waiting since the Mack mess for this draft! DFIU!
It’s a nothing burger. Scouting staff will be reshuffled. If I were Mayock or Gruden, I would have made the same decision.
Gotta be honest and say that I won’t trust the reporting on this issue because it is in the best interests of reporters to protect their sources.
The fact that this became a “story” is somewhat troubling to me. Everyone understands that Mayock and Gruden are going to bring in their guys, but they still needed to work with and get the best out of the guys in the building for this draft. Mayock and Gruden will not be able to nail this draft alone. Also, why didn’t Mayock/Gruden come up with a better story than they did not trust these guys? Seems to me that you could easily spin the desire to not have so many people in the room when decisions are made without making it a trust issue. That just screams a lack of management skills which is not good for a GM and Head coach to lack.
@MM – Agreed Gruden and Mayock didn’t have to make it into a trust issue. Other teams have reduced and limited the number of persons inside the draft room on draft day. They could’ve simply said “they’re following the trend in the NFL in having fewer people in the room on draft day. It makes for a more precise operation.” Leigh Mayock, Mike’s daughter, said he carries his draft binder everywhere. She adds he won’t leave his binder alone with her either.
This will affect us more with lower round picks and UDFAs.
the scouts work was done. it’s easter weekend, go spend time with your families. like all teams scouts are doing. the crappy part is sending them off, making them wonder if they will have a job next week. but a necessity as they decide what direction they want to take their scouting staff in.
