The Raiders cut veteran wide receiver Ryan Grant on Wednesday and signed linebacker Justin Phillips from their practice squad to fill the vacancy on the 53-man roster. Grant, 28, was signed this offseason as part of the rebuild of the receiving corps by head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock. To date, that

No much to get excited about there.

I find it doubtful that Allen, the LB signed off the Rams PS, or Phillips will provide instant impact other than possibly STs.

Also remember that Gruden and Mayock have stated more than once that Williams was brought here to be a #1 WR as the front office was unsure if they would be able to get AB.

And just because they say he is a #1, does not make him one. We need way more production from him and Carr.

TAV I think Car is done. He looks to me to …. playing scared. 17/18 all over again. Think we should cut our loses with him at the end of the year? I sure do miss Bill Musgrave . Dude called a beautiful game. Cork any chance Bill Musgrave would come back? Think Gruden would allow him too? Why not let Morton our senior OC advisor Call plays? Something!!! Suck of this crap already.

I have the distinct feeling that Gruden really wanted Peterman to be the backup this season. If things went bad with Carr, he would have put in Peterman later in the season.

I hate that Carr has not broken out yet, so many had so much hope for his second year in the system.

I want to give it a few more weeks. If he and Williams get together and light it up over the next few games, that could mean good things. It seems he trusts Waller the most thus far. Kind of like he did last season with Cook.

I am hopeful that Doss gets a lot of time this week also. Why bring the man back if you refuse to play him?

The other big thing, we are still not getting to the opposing QB. That is not good. Not being able to get off the field on third down will kill any team. We saw this over and over last year.

However much the Raiders would have wanted him to count. The cap can be manipulated a billion ways. Literally. For instance, last season, Mack counted very little on the Bears’ cap because they wanted the contract backloaded. In other words, money would not have been an issue in terms of keeping Mack.

Again, Cork, thanks for these articles re: the salary cap (I am pretty illiterate in the ways of salary cap). To go slightly off topic, why does Gruden seem to vacilate greatly from one week to the next on players? These type of willy-nilly personnel decisions do not provide this fan with any confidence that there is an overall plan–which means, to this fan, that the rebuild will last a long time (a la the Marathon bar for those old enough to get that reference: cheers!). How do you build a team if you are swapping players out seemingly based on emotion? And, why does it seem that Gruden keeps cutting players that have some ability to play. Let’s keep guys like this for depth (i.e. let’s have more than four LBs on the roster).

Still hearing the phrase “cash poor” also.

Was MD doing his happy dance for not having to pay AB? How much does that really help the team?

In saving that money, would that make it easier for our Raiders to make a push for Ramsey? Not on the subject of should we or not, just having that money available, will that make it any easier to give up the 2 first rounders for him, as that is the price being reported, as well as a possible player.

TAV I’m calling BS on the cash poor thing. Might not have as much sun me of the Billionaire owners but they have enough money. Franchise went up a billion and a half. Don’t want to hear about the raiders being cash poor. Mark Drives the same Van for the last 15 minutes I ears . Eats at PF Chang’s every day ,not that much money.

I will say the cash poor thing has been a running statement since the move was finalized by the nfl.

Not to say I am giving MD a pass, no owner deserves a pass, but having all that “money” going in different directions can lead to issues. The new stadium, publicity, actual team payroll and signing bonuses, Grudens contract as well as all the asst coaches along with “incidentals’.

Maybe it is pure BS, but if its not, that says something about our beloved franchise too.

I like the idea of a Ramsey deal. It’s a long term fix instead of a stop-gap. Expensive, yes. But generational corner talent usually is. Who knows, maybe the market softens as time goes by…
