The Raiders on Thursday made their first roster move, which ultimately will become far more noteworthy for the fact that it’s the first transaction completed since they made the Las Vegas portion of their name official. Let the record show that cornerback Nevin Lawson was signed to a one-year contract extension. The deal is worth

I think you meant “was not difficult to question the re-signing of RI and Good”

I am with you, that is a big contract for a role/backup player. I don’t get this at all.

As for the cap money, I have to think they are planning on parting with a high paid vet or they are NOT going to dip into the FA pool for big money players.

My guess is that Jordan, and the others on your list, will see this contract and hope to get a substantial signing bonus if they stay.

Never mind about the you meant part, I completely read it backwards. Its early on the other coast.

I’m with you on this … definitely a head-scratcher with Lawson. Which high paid vet are you thinking? I would lean maybe letting go Tyrell Williams. Yes, he was plagued with the plantar injury but with the abundance of receivers available in the draft , the temptation has to be there. Another I would lean is Gabe Jackson. Two straight years of being banged up does not bode well for him, not unless Jackson is willing to take a pay cut or a restructure.

Rodney Hudson, I’d keep. He’s like another coach on the field. Plus, his football IQ is off-the-chart high. I always thought if Cable couldn’t get the O-line to gel in 2019, I would’ve liked to have seen the job go to Hudson … still do.

The most likely is Jackson. And Carr is the other one.

I don’t think Whitehead makes it through camp if he is on the roster that long.

I don’t question the Lawson signing.

Lawson showed versatility as he stepped in for injured players in the secondary and played multiple positions in 2019; Left CB, Right CB, Nickel and even Dime linebacker. By the end of the year it was painfully obvious that Lawson was the best slot defender.

And that’s more of an indictment on the other players than it is a measure of Lawson’s value. That’s the problem with the signing.
