There any plenty of reasons why the 49ers made the quantum leap from a 4-12 team in 2018 to perhaps the best team in the league this season. The trade for linebacker Dee Ford and drafting of defensive end Nick Bosa isn’t a bad place to start. It’s also not a bad model for the

No problem with either of these, although it would be ironic if we ended up with Clowney on Mack type money! If no Clooney, Ngakoue from Jax would be a great pick up.
But i’d go to a different part of the defense fitst to splash the cash: Let’s go to linebacker and pick up at least one of Littleton or Schobert (this is going to continue to be my obsession until Mayock actually does something about it).

Clowney is not worth that type of cash. 32 sacks in 75 games. No thanks; that would be a stupid move. I would spend on Chris Jones however. He blows up the middle run game and is excellent at rushing the passer for a DT.

We need greater push up the middle, so Jones would provide that. However, our edge rush would also improve with Jones. I would then add a long over due middle linebacker, as we need help covering the tight ends that kill us. Somebody who can play sideline to sideline. Use the draft to pick up WR, CB, and add depth elsewhere.

Clowney stated his desire to go to a championship ready team. But not having taxes garnished every payday could be a boon for players. I get the Mack = Clowney money thought. But Mack is gone and we need to win games by getting after opposing QBs.

Would love to see Jones here giving us the inside presence.

But as we keep saying, the LB group is far below average. Any good/great opposing TE just shreds us and has for years.

Its a team effort, to compete for SBs we have to have much better team talent than we had last season. As Mayock said, depth is also an issue, something echoed by fans every year too.

No way to Clowney. Clowney shows up for some games and disappears in others. He’s good, not great for the money he will ask.

    My list:

-Chris Jones. 24 sacks over the last 2 seasons. Would be a HUGE acquisition
-Byron Jones at CB (still young and good coverage ability)
-Corey Littleton at LB (one of best coverage LBs in the game)
    – Joe Schobert at LB (good coverage ability as well, can rush the passer)

I agree with the others, I would prefer not to pay Clowney Mack money since I don’t think Clowney is worth that much. I wouldn’t mind seeing Chris Jones in Sivler and Black, and, like, Ghost, would prefer to see the Raiders go after some LBs.
