Head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock aren’t shy about admitting that the Raiders are a ways away from being a Super Bowl contender and that there’s plenty of work to do. However, it’s worth pointing out that some of the foundation has been formed. That’s a far cry from where the Raiders

Good piece Steve. I’m more bullish on Ferrell than you. Defensive linemen who burst onto the scene like Crosby or Bosa are very rare. A lot of great ones, including Khalil Mack, are slow starters as rookies. I saw more than enough out of Ferrell in the latter part of the season, after he got over his sickness/weight loss and played almost exclusively at end, to be encouraged. Pro Football Focus saw it too, he earned high grades over the last 5 or 6 games of the year. It’s also worth noting that the Raiders run D was an area of great improvement last season and Cle setting the edge was a big reason for that.

I’m also bullish on Mullen and hopeful for Abram, who I think can be that spiritual leader on defense we’ve been missing forever…

I know they did not bring him in, but re-signing Hudson is a key move too. His smarts and experience are invaluable. Having that rock in the middle was so important when RI serving his suspension and with Gabe being hurt to start the season. It will surely be that way again if we decide to move on from Gabe.

Not much to argue with on the rest of the story. Hopefully the trend continues and our Raiders keep getting better.

Foreau if he can return to form from ACL injury is a foundational piece. In addition, let’s see what Raiders can get from Isiah Johnson.

And Ferrell can be a foundational player. Overdrafted. Raiders need production from him.

I agree, tons of foundational pieces on the offensive side of the ball. But, while I am excited for these rookies, they have only played one season. Let’s see what they do in year two.
