Put the Raiders roster — as it’s currently constructed — under a microscope and you’ll be hard-pressed not to say it isn’t suited for one Tom Brady. Hear me out: ● A domineering offensive line that yielded the sixth-fewest sacks and paved the way for a menacing run game. ● A throwback battering ram of
No way Brady would want to play for a circus clown like Jon Gruden who gets in the face of his quarterbacks all the time. I give this possibility zero per cent chance of happening. Brady at best will use the Raiders to drive up his price in free agency so he can sign somewhere else.
I would be absolutely gobsmacked if it happened.
“Isn’t sound” is an understatement. Ridiculous is a more appropriate description.
There’s got to be more meaningful topics to write about for this Raider fan base. How about the underlying philosophy of Jon Gruden’s offensive scheme, for example? Or maybe how it’s evolved since he last coached in Tampa? Just a thought.
If Gruden parts with Carr and lets say gets a second rounder for him. That is a gain of 1 pick and 20 mil or so in cap space.
Brady is not coming here for that kind of money. Lets say he signs for 35 mil plus incentives. Well that is a net loss of 15 mil along with adding another drafted players salary. And the desire/need to add a key player or two in FA on D. That could burn through a significant portion of that cap money.
Brady is not getting younger, stronger or faster. He will be in a new O and rumors are that he would like to have input on play calling and design. Is Gruden giving up some of his control of the O? Doubtful. Especially with a first year QB making the change to his system and verbiage.
Not to mention that we would need to find another young QB, draft or otherwise, to put on the roster and be a backup to Brady in case he gets hurt. Maybe the QB Gruden truly wants as the face of the franchise.
If we had a great D and an O that was a player away from being great, like a true #1 WR, I could possibly see, maybe, taking a look at Brady.
No, I take it back, Gruden has insisted that he wants a QB who can make plays with his feet when necessary. Something he is not always getting from Carr, who is a ton more athletic than Brady.
Brady to the Raiders? ABSOLUTELY
Toughness, leadership, all traits this team needs to see from their QB. I want a QB not taking questions on why he can’t win the cold. I want a QB not afraid of Arrowhead.
Carr is still a flawed quarterback. The Raiders drastically upgraded their offensive line but he’s still completely unreliable when pressure collapses the pocket. Perhaps more troubling is Carr’s inability to make accurate passes down the field. He showcases some decent touch on throws over the top, but he lacks the accuracy required to make intermediate throws in tight windows.
A 70% Brady is better than 100% Carr. Raiders just need to know it would be 2 years with Brady and have a young QB to develop.
Moreover, love this statement in the article below …
“While Brady is assuredly on the downward slope of his career at his age, his floor is where Carr’s ceiling is. And that alone has to pique Gruden’s interest.
Landing Brady pairs Gruden with another perfectionist quarterback who is fiercely competitive. Not to say Carr isn’t just as driven, but Brady is on a different plateau in that department.”
So true.
Will there be a QB on the roster who can be an understudy/heir apparent? Is this QB clearly BETTER than Carr? If not this makes no sense and does not close the gap on the Chiefs.
Defense please.
The statement that Brady’s “…floor is where Carr’s ceiling is” suggests that Carr can’t be any better than he is today and Brady can’t be any worse than he is today. Both declarations are false. Not sure who’s view that statement represents, but it’s a fallacy.
