Before the draft, during the draft or even long afterward, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden always seems willing to wheel and deal. More times than not, he turns to two teams and targets one position. It’s a safe bet that Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock will be at it once again before long, which
Please no more trades for veteran receivers. It seems Raiders never get the value they expected, except if they trade for draft picks.
I think Gruden has learned his lesson. Maybe….
The low risk late rounders for Jones and Davis can be gems. Just like with Renfrow. Having those picks could mean not having to trade as much during the draft itself. Coveting a player late vs needing to add more picks can put our Raiders in a bad situation. We need as much quality depth as we can get right now. Those superior picks of Crosby, Moreau and Renfrow could be exactly what we are missing out on by giving those picks away for mostly nothing.
The one pick that really did not work out in any way, shape or form was 7-230 for DE Bell. I can stomach giving away 7th rounders.
I hope Ghost is right and maybe, just maybe Gruden has learned from lessons past.
Oh, and if our draft this year is anywhere near as good as last years was, those late picks should and will become more and more valuable to Gruden and Mayock.
True, true, true. Can’t find a Maxx Crosby without a mid- to late-round pick, right? Same goes for Renfrow. As you pointed out, it’s about context, and it’s why Mike Mayock is so important to have around, in hopes he can prevent Gruden from being too impulsive. Then again, Mayock was there last year, when trades for Davis and Jones went down.
Mayock knows he he needs to throw the big dog a bone or two every so often to keep him occupied! 🙂
