The immediate returns of waxing Brentson Buckner in favor of Rod Marinelli isn’t only going to have ramifications for the defensive line, but the demeanor of the entire Las Vegas Raiders defense. That alone is well-worth watching.  It wasn’t hard to see Marinelli linking back up with Raiders boss Jon Gruden. Adding the well-respected veteran

I think many of us saw this coming. Several of us mention the possibility months back and saw the pipeline in place if dallas let Marinelli go.

Like many coaches, he is great at one thing, the D line. Some coaches are meant to be a HC, some not. Same goes with coordinators and position coaches.

I expect big things from our D line moving forward. I expect Ferrell to become what is expected of an overall #4 pick in the draft and more production everywhere else. High expectations? You bet.

I am also on record as expecting to be a 10-6 team this season, worst case.

I hate that this move came at the expense of Buckner, but it was the right move. Can’t wait to see what he does with our young players…

Marinelli could possibly be DC if Guenther fails to improve defense.

Marinelli has to get more from entire line, esp. Hurst, Hall and Ferrell. Key needs to step up as well.

But will Guenther’s vanilla, 4-3-4, no blitz/no disguise scheme allow Marinelli to make an impact? There is only so much you can do as a d-line coach when the QB can diagnose exactly what the defense intends to do at the line of scrimmage.

Funny thing is, if Marinelli does his job, it might save Guenther’s. If the D-Line starts playing well it may help the LBs (whoever they may be) and secondary shine. Honestly, at this point, I want to be able to count on the defense to win help this team win games.
