The Raiders added yet another player to their defense Tuesday when they signed veteran defensive end Carl Nassib as a means of pushing Clelin Ferrell and Arden Key and getting more production out of that position. Nassib turns 27 in April, but he is just entering his prime. He spent the past two seasons with
I liked this guy coming out of college. This could be a great signing and we may even look back at this as a steal if Rod can get this guy playing to his fullest potential.
Again, Ferrell said he would come back a different player this season, saying we might not recognize him. Rod should help him to see that potential too. Ferrell needs a big jump from year one to year two.
Signing Collins helps that inside rotation for sure and should allow Ferrell to work mostly on the outside. Gruden said they were forced to use Ferrell out of position last year. Hopefully that will not be an issue now. Hankins and Collins could form an impact duo if things go as planned.
How is it a shock that Ferrell lacked the impact? His measurables last year were average to below average. No bend. No twitchiness. I could see that when I watched him play at Clemson. Similarly, you can see that with the Iowa DE Espensa, who showed his lack of burst at last month’s Combine.
Its great to see more talent being infused in the defensive line. Need to keep guys fresh in the rotation.
I would like for us to sign CB Robey-Coleman, he could fill that nickel spot and actually have the production Gruden said we would get from Joyner. That would allow Joyner to go back to S, his natural fit.
