As promised, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock aren’t standing pat in their quest to build a Super Bowl-caliber roster. That includes their quarterback situation. Earlier this month, Gruden and Mayock signed veteran Marcus Mariota ostensibly as incumbent starter Derek Carr’s backup. Carr, no doubt, wondered, “What in the name of
Gruden likes to kick the tires on all potential QBs.
I think the QB that is most likely to be chosen is Jalen Hurts, in the 2nd (if they get a 2nd) or 3rd round. I think the interest is real from the Raiders.
No shock here. Ghost is dead on. Kick the tires. Hurts on the radar. Some of us have been saying that for a while now about Hurts.
If one of the top QBs is there at 12, we might get a couple more picks for the first night with the trade of Carr.
Remember this, Gruden might trade Carr and have little to no time to get Mariota ready for the season due to this virus ordeal. That could in turn lead us to, lose, then having the first overall pick next year, likely picking QB Lawrence from Clemson.
Boy, I damn sure hope I am wrong on that last thought. Damn conspiracy theory.
Saw Mcshay’s new mock today. WR Lamb and S Winfield in the first. I say Ruggs and I am just fine with Winfield.
With this virus situation, it simply solidifies DC’s position with the team. Mariota would have next to no time studying and calling anything from Gruden’s playbook. Justin Herbert, who had a decent year last season at Oregon, made some head-scratching plays as well. Whether it’s Herbert or Hurts, or someone else, it’ll be a long study on the bench too.
I say Ruggs too.
