There are numerous teams that would love to select a quarterback in the draft later this month. Teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers shouldn’t have to do anything but wait for their turn to roll around, then pick their guy. For most other teams in need of a signal-caller,
Trading down from 19 is fine with me. I remember reading an article that quoted a scout that once you get past pick 10, you are out of the “elite” player range. Thus, all the players are valued roughly the same in the first round, except for team needs.
Trade back and get more picks. This Raider team is not short on 1-2 players, they need many players, especially depth.
“Trade back my wayward son…for there will be peace when the trading is done… lay your losing ways to rest, don’t you cry no more!”
In some drafts, that holds up fine. Not this one, Ghost. Remember, teams at Nos. 11, 12, 13, even a few beyond that, are going to get players such as Jerry Jeudy, perhaps CeeDee Lamb, a stud left tackle, maybe Javon Kinlaw. This draft is deep for at least the first half of the first round.
It would be nice to have the pick of the litter when it comes to 19. Being able to drive up the price and get several more picks would be just what the doctor ordered.
If we do end up being forced to stand pat, those first five picks all need to end up being starters. Both of the first rounders, day one impact starters.
Even if OTAs, camp and preseason are condensed due to all this covid business.
Has anyone given any thought that having the “19” pick could be an omen this year?
Cork – according to the Trade Value Chart, the Raiders pick at 19 has a value of 875 while Indy’s 2 seconds are valued at #34 560 & #44 460. You stated that the Colts might have to sweeten the deal even further if they were to offer the Raiders both round 2 selections. I think I would be inclined to accept both 2nd rounders if offered without any further compensation. Is that 5 year option that more valuable than the chart indicates?
Correct on the draft chart that you cited. However, few, if any, teams use that anymore. Teams place a far greater value on No. 1s now, given the frequency with which teams whiff in the second round. So, that’s why I say the Colts might have to throw in another pick.
