In a perfect world, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock would have found a suitable trade offer and vacated the No. 19 spot, while acquiring one or more extra draft picks. Instead, they stayed put and got defensive. With the 19th pick, Gruden and Mayock selected Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette,

Feels like a reach, similar to Ferrell reach last year.

It also feels reminiscent of 2017: pick of OSU corner with character concerns.

    Only ran 4.56.

    I’m not excited

Agreed. They could have traded back anywhere into the middle of the second round and likely still been able to get Arnette. This pick might be a result of not having a second-round pick, too. Gruden knew that he didn’t have anymore picks from 20-79, so if he wanted a corner, it was at No. 19 or take one even less talented. Time will tell, though.

    Ghost is exactly right.

Huge, enormous, foolish reach at 19.

Had a shot at some damn good players still on the board.

And this is why as long as the 100 million dollar man is running the show the Raiders will continue to be a joke. It’s a completely ridiculous and silly pick.

THIS is what we traded in return for Khalil Mack? Really??

They could have picked up some other deadbeat corner in the third round who is just as good as this guy. Surely there had to be a worthy defensive player like a DT or maybe grab Kenneth Murray at that spot. Take the best player when the guy you want isn’t there. You don’t reach at a position of need….ever.

    Man I’m pissed off.

You’re not alone. Making matters worse is, Mayock saying they wanted to make sure that they got Arnette and were concerned that they might miss out if they moved into the second round.

There’s a lot of negativity going on here, wow. That is more depressing then the pick itself. I thought maybe my Jordan love comment might lighten the crowd up a little bit, guess I was wrong there. The kid hasn’t played a game for us yet and is getting hammered. What I can tell is he is tough, played with a broken wrist last year and was productive. Who cares what the so called draft gurus think, as far as I’m concerned mayock has made us better and I have faith in him.

I’ll reserve judgment until after I see the kid play. Kid got marked down for running a 4.56 at the combine. Go look at his tape given the fact that teams avoided Okudah. QB’s had the lowest passer rating in CBA against Arnette. He plays physical man to man and is a strong run defender. No one will call him soft that’s for sure. Personally, if they were to have acquired a mid to late 2nd, he’s probably gone. Look at how many CBs got taken in round 1. All that matters is that he contributes. Mayock loves to trade back, it’s pretty obvious there wasn’t a presentable offer or he would have accepted it.

Nobody complained when we took Conley, yet he didn’t make it through his rookie contract. Give the kid a chance to show what he can do.

No shit, right? Conley was supposed to be this shut down corner and he was soft physically and played way too far off the receiver. That guy would line up 10 yards off the receiver when it was 3rd and 5. Used to drive me crazy. Kid hasn’t even played a down yet and who knows if he would have been available in the middle of the 2nd round. If he’s your guy, he’s your guy. I’m going to laugh when Ferrell racks up 9 sacks this year and all the idiots who frequent this site can go pound sand.

      Not true. I did.

We should have picked Tre White LSU.

Thank you Jon, I’m with you on Ferrell everyone has been way to critical about him. He’s gonna have a big year I believe also. To many raider fans complain and bitch so much now it’s becoming sickening. The raiders are on the upswing and I truly believe that. In mayock I trust he’s got a vision and let it come to fruition.

Really hope you’re right about Ferrell as it would help the team so much for him to fully deliver on the green shoots we saw later on in his rookie year. Collins and Nassib coming into the building will really help him too.
On Annette, I was surprised and thought there were several better options at 19 but, I’m not the GM and the pick has been made so let’s hope the guy can deliver on what Mayock & Gruden have seen in him.

Yet another “Who?” pick! I ain’t gonna be mad about it until I see the kid play. Again, I learned my lesson with the Kolton Miller pick. I definitely would have preferred Murray at 19 when the trade back did not happen. I also worry that the Raiders (Gruden) is focusing too much on KC. There are other teams in our division who will get better. LA’s defense is a beast! And, if Denver has found their QB, they are going to be difficult in the years to come.

I will say, after doing some research on Arnette. I like that he is not afraid to tackle (one thing Conley never seemed interested in doing). I am concerned about his age and the fact that he had issues unrelated to physical ability that he had to overcome last year. At his age, I would expect more maturity. Let’s hope he is just a late bloomer.

Being Carter’s kid the immaturity at that age could be hereditary.
