The Raiders already know which 13 teams they play next season, and where, now it’s a matter of being told by the league when and at what time. Those answers are expected by the end of the week. In anticipation of the release of the schedule, it’s worth remembering which teams the Raiders play —
Off subject but very sad to see reports of the passing of the legendary Don Shula. He was coach of the Dolphins with a new QB named Dan Marino, when I started following this great game.
He was a great coaching mind and class act, all football fans who know anything of him and his achievements will no doubt share the sadness of Colts & Dolphins fans today.
Raiders opponents all got better. Raiders could be better this year but record may not show it.
-Can Drew Lock emerge as a permanent solution in Denver?
-Can Chargers win with Taylor or Herbert?
-Will Chiefs sustain their success?
Regarding Don Shula, would be good to have an upcoming article review all the great games Raiders vs Dolphins with Shula as Coach. Great history there.
I like the sound of that article… I recall the Raiders going to Miami and producing an absolute thriller of a shoot-out against Marino
Sorry, posted that too early!
The game was in week 14 of the 1984 season with Miami heading for their last (so far) Super Bowl appearance. It was a game for the ages and well worth a look online… happy days!
I remember that 1984 game vs the Dolphins. It was terrific.
There were multiple playoff games vs. Dolphins throughout the 1970s, including the “Sea of Hands”
And Raider win in 2001 playoffs vs. Dolphins to advance to AFC Championship game vs. Ravens
Lots of great games vs. Shula’s Dolphins…..
I watched the 1984 game again and in the intro, the commentator mentions that whenever the Raiders played the Dolphins it was war! As you say, a rich history…. as an aside, my long suffering wife took me to see us play the Dolphins at Wembley, London as a 50th birthday present in 2014…. not a classic and not a great result – especially for Dennis Allen! I can just about smile now….
Everyone always thinks they got better this time of the year. My rose colored glasses are starting to fade a bit and I am a bit more skeptical. Just like last year, the key to this year will be the play of the offense. It won’t have to carry as big of a load as it did last season (hopefully), but it will have to win some games.
I agree with Ghost, the Broncos think they have their QB in Lock and have made a concerted effort to get him weapons. The Broncos D is probably not as dominant as it once was, but it is still formidable. The Chargers D seems to keep getting better and they are not horrible on offense. Can whoever the QB will be for them not lose games? The Chiefs are still the class of the AFC until they prove otherwise.
Man, can’t believe the news about Don Shula. He was a remarkable coach and those teams with Griese and Csonka were tough!
