Brash, cocky, confident, physical and downright mean. There was a time when those traits were the standard — and then some — for a member of the Raiders secondary. But my, how times have changed. The gruesome and feared group of Jack Tatum, George Atkinson, Skip Thomas and Willie Brown earned the moniker of “Soul
A new attitude is needed in the secondary and frankly, the entire team.
I like they are bringing players with an attitude. However, they have to play under control. They have to keep their emotions in check. If not, the yellow will start flying from officials.
-Smart
-Tough (mental and physical)
-Resilient (learn from mistakes, don’t back down)
That’s what needed to change a culture.
We need better DB play. Simple. Gruden and Mayock are addressing the situation, not ignoring it.
Having a DB group that instills a little fear into WRs or TEs either fighting for ball or coming over the middle would be a great thing to have again.
Michelle, and others on the site, I apologize, I was given bad information. I thought Arnette was C. Carters kid, obviously that is wrong. Just a close family friend.
Vet, on the Carter point, when Arnette was picked several of the talking heads on the draft broadcast referred to CC as an “uncle” so there seems to be some general confusion as to the precise relationship!
Attitude? All for it but it must be remembered that the players that exemplified the legendary Raiders prickly attitude on the back end…. let’s nod to Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes here as well… also brought technical excellence to their play.
In an ideal world, you get the intimidation factor coupled with the skills to play the position…. there are indicators that both of the corners we picked have both. Great, bring it on.
Not commented on the Amukamara signing yet but I think it’s a great move. He brings starter level skills and massive experience to help bring the new guys along.
Despite the evidence to the contrary from last year, Lamarcus Joyner needs to show he can look over his shoulder as his status is seriously under threat from Robinson!
The production has to be there. Otherwise the intimidating factor, if there is one, goes by by.
I agree about Joyner/Robertson. He has every shot to unseat Joyner. But that may depend on how much time the coaches actually get with the players on the field.
Did I say Robinson? No disrespect intended. To be honest, if Joyner plays like last year it won’t take long for Robertson to take his place.
This time last year, I thought Joyner was our best pick up…. more for the ‘What do I know?” list….
I like the swagger! However, swagger means nothing if you can’t back it up. Also, need to be able to stay on the field (Abram!). The D needs to start getting the ball back to the O.
