It’s not uncommon for a team to enter a season knowing its window for success is about to close as a result of the salary cap and free agency. Fortunately for the Raiders, they are built to last beyond the upcoming season. That’s great and all, provided head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike
Patience, patience – we’ve all had to show so much of it (I’ve failed spectacularly!). The ingredients have all been picked and mixed together following the Gruden & Mayock recipe…. it’s time to have some proof of the pudding.
Time to win, guys. Time for the post-season. Failure is not an option.
Go Raiders
Agreed. Past time. Roster has been turned over, it’s in Gruden’s image, salary cap is in order, move is over, no more excuses.
Question is when all of these players all come up for extensions or re-signings after their rookie deals. What happens to the roster then? Need to keep hitting on draft picks to keep the roster at an even keel.
Man, I hope that the fruits of Gruden’s and Mayock’s labor comes to fruition this year and for many years to come. It’s been, as Andy indicates, a long, long time coming.
What’s refreshing is that finally the team is being managed using a long term strategy, which hasn’t been the case for decades. This model is dependent on sustained success in the draft, strong cap discipline, consistency in coaching staff, consistency in philosophy, and being able to get the most out of the talent you acquire. Patience is the right word here, and of course Raider fans ran out of that long ago. But if done right, the success will come. Hopefully we’ll soon be in a position where dismal season upon dismal season is but a distant memory. But, first things first.
