The fascination with Maxx Crosby netted Mike Mayock, Jon Gruden and the Raiders a tremendous talent in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. The never-quit product from Eastern Michigan produced a stellar rookie campaign. He gave the Silver & Black tangible results (10 sacks, 14 quarterback hits and 31 pressers, according to Pro Football
Ferrell is not a “twitchy” player. I remember watching him in the NCAA Championship and saw a stiff, albeit strong player. I’m obviously not a scout and could see his lack of explosion immediately.
I remember reading a scout’s report on Ferrell in November 2018. I’m paraphrasing but he stated “Ferrell is similar to other Clemson DE’s. Solid but not elite.”
Ferrell is apparently up to 275 lbs. Great to add muscle but I’m most interested in how much quicker he can be. It’s frustrating that Raiders that picked #4 overall and we are still deliberating overall on whom will play DE opposite Crosby. Raiders got luck to get Crosby.
I wish I had a nickel for every time someone in football uses the word “twitchy” these days! It’s as if nobody’s ever seen a power rusher. Remember those? I liked what I saw of Ferrell in the latter part of the season, so did PFF for what it’s worth. I think he makes a leap.
It won’t be for lack of effort on Ferrell’s part, that seems certain. Same goes for the Raiders bringing in noted defensive line coach Rod Marinelli. There were flashes last season by Ferrell. What causes the widespread criticism is how well Maxx Crosby played in the same defense, same games, same time, etc., and the fact that a player picked at No. 4 is expected to succeed right away. Fortunately for Ferrell and the Raiders, there is plenty of time to make people forget about his rookie season.
Ferrell said we would not recognize him. I hope he is right when it comes to the production.
Nassib is talented enough to start opposite Crosby.
I am very surprised that Jordan has not been re-signed because Gruden did say he wanted Jordan back.
