The AFC West had quite the draft experience this past April, as all four teams added an intriguing array of talent. The Los Angeles Chargers are banking they got their next franchise quarterback, while the Denver Broncos got young signal-caller Drew Lock some serious weapons. The Las Vegas Raiders landed a home-run threat at wideout
Raiders have improved through FA and the draft, but so have the other AFC West teams.
Broncos seems to be the media darling after a strong finish last year and adding weapons via the draft. We’ll see.
Yeah, this is one of those uncommon offseasons, where it’s pretty certain that all four teams within the AFC West improved. The key for the Broncos is, how well does second-year quarterback Drew Lock progress after having started only five games last season and not having had any offseason with which to improve his chemistry with the offense.
I live in Colorado, and the local sports media covers the Broncos in very glowing terms – even when they play poorly. I’ve seen more of Derek Carr bringing teammates to LV for informal workouts. You don’t see or hear of Drew Lock doing the same. If he is, the local media hasn’t reported it. The question is “why not?” When a Drew Lock story does appear, it’s him talking (on the phone) about how he is studying his playbook. If Gruden drafted Lock, for certain Lock would be in LV to run some plays in those informal workouts. And, yes, I give credit to DC for organizing those informal workouts. He could’ve stayed home.
The Chargers are building a defense that can be downright scary! I agree with Cork, if Lock is “the guy” in Denver, they will be tough to beat.
