The sight of quarterback Derek Carr throwing the ball, tight end Foster Moreau running smoothly on his surgically repaired knee, and wide receiver Zay Jones gliding underneath the throws for the catch in the desert provided Raider Nation with much-needed football eye candy, didn’t they? Why delay the season, a week or even a month? COVID-19 will still be around, and in October, will actually be increasing in prevalence and intensity with the onset of cold weather.

I have a difficult time envisioning how a sport like football, which relies on tactics that are the opposite of social distancing, will occur. Even with testing and safeguards it will be extremely challenging to play football with any sense of normalcy.

Can they play with a sheet of Plexiglas between the players? I agree with the premise of delaying to allow the teams to “get up to speed.” I fear the inability to do so will likely lead to more injuries across the league. However, the country hasn’t even emerged from the “first wave,” yet. The second wave appears to be lurking to pile on to the first. I can’t imagine that the games will go forward on schedule.
