Most players would be thrilled to back up a season in which they rushed for 1,150 yards and had a strong argument for being selected Rookie of the Year with comparable numbers. Raiders running back Josh Jacobs isn’t your ordinary player. Jacobs realizes that missing three games and playing injured for six or seven others
For as frequent as Carr checks down, it’s bizarre that Jacobs was not the target of many of those short passes. That has to change.
That’s a good point Ghost and feeds into some interesting questions that have emerged recently about the coaching genius of Gruden.
I’m finding it hard to see the evidence for all of the assertions made that:
Gruden is a QB whisperer – Gannon thrived with the Raiders but mostly seemed to be his own man, often rowing with his HC rather than being developed by him.
Brad Johnson was never key to the TB Championship under Gruden, that was keyed by an awesome defense with HoF players at every level.
Who did Gruden develop afterwards in Tampa? Certainly not Chris Simms.
What has he done for Carr….. who actually offers a lot more to work with than Johnson did…
Gruden is an offensive genius – Agolhor just joined this group but is a guy who needed a job and refers directly to familiarity with Gruden being a reason to become a Raider. No genius here, just a bit of networking.
Our offense has stagnated under Gruden in so many ways but he seems to be wearing the Emperor’s new clothes with no brave little kid out there to draw attention to the truth, which includes: predictable game plan, no adjustments in game, no use of a fabulous running back in the passing game and an inability to score in the red zone. I could give you that for 10 million a year for 10 years (Actually, I’d do it for a lot less!).
