Raiders head coach Jon Gruden inherited a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team in 2002 that was Super Bowl-ready. All he had to do was take the baton from fired head coach Tony Dungy, make a few tweaks, then sit back and enjoy the results. He realized that things weren’t going to be so easy when he
Interesting that Gruden didn’t have to tear down and rebuild the Bucs roster, but felt he needed to in this stint as head coach of the Raiders. The offense struggled last year (and the year before), so Gruden did let teams stop him. I just wonder if the tear down by Gruden was really a result of whatever happened at that Sunday Night game in D.C. Something went wrong in the locker room that night and maybe whatever it was it caused such division that Gruden needed to rebuild (again). It just seems weird to me that he couldn’t work with what he had inherited and then replace players moving forward.
But, hey, if Carr is correct, then this offense should be pretty unstoppable. Of course, he says that every year.
Everything hinges on Carr. If he doesn’t play well, he’ll be jettisoned as well.
Gruden has players that love the game what happened in DC was the worst thing in Raider history. This group will play hard every snap its more than a job to them.
However, Gruden needs to call the plays that would take advantage of the rebuilt offense. He can’t say, “I want Carr to throw deep” if he doesn’t call the play or send in the proper personnel package.
