All the speculation about the long-term job security of Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has died down for now. Five weeks from now, the chatter is going to pick up again, especially if Carr struggles in the first three games of the season. On Oct. 3, one day before the Raiders host the Buffalo Bills, North
Every year in training camp we hear Carr is in command, and then we score less than 20pts per game and lose 10 games a year as he tells us we don’t get it. This is more of the same, I’ll believe it when I see it. I don’t need to see more to ramp up the pressure, he’s the second losingist QB in NFL history through 6yrs, we’ve all seen it already.
I may be the only one but I’m so sick of these stupid stories about Carr. We will see this year so stop the sad sack poor Carr or Carr is looking good every day stories. If Carr doesn’t play well the Raiders suck again if he plays well we can make the playoffs. I can read this every day on Twitter.
If you don’t have a QB that can take you to the Super Bowl, you need to keep looking until you find one that can. I don’t believe Carr is that QB, but would love to be proven wrong. Carr is similar to Jimmy Garrapolo that he would need an elite defense to carry the team.
Here’s the problem with trying to get Trey Lance (or fill in the name of whatever QB they covet) – Raiders only have one first round pick next year. To get in the top 5, they would need to give up TWO #1 picks. Very challenging.
We will see soon enough. The weapons have been provided to Carr. Let’s see how this materializes.
Interesting, I had not heard of this QB. I agree with 510Cali, every off season we hear how explosive this offense going to be only for it to turn out to be a dud. I like that Mayock is not afraid to keep looking at improving the team no matter what position. If Trey Lance wows this season, though, it will be difficult for the Raiders to land him (assuming the Raiders improve on last year’s record) for sure.
It will also be strange trying to evaluate talent in the college ranks when some conferences are not playing. I certainly feel sorry for the seniors this year of those conferences, not to mention the high school seniors who are entering their freshmen years.
Same old tired topic; Carr on the hot seat; like beating a dead horse. I realize it’s tough on reporters this year, but Is there absolutely nothing else to write about? Nothing? Nothing at all?
This “story” is beneath you Cork. Cantyou just say what’s obvious? They have built around Derek Carr, there is no reason to believe he will fail, and the reason they haven’t been able to “upgrade” at the QB position is because they realize what they have in DC.
My job is to tell you what I know, not what you want to hear. If anyone simply wants the latter, Raiders.com is the place for them. I covered Gruden during his first stint and know him as well as anyone. So, when I write an article such as the one you responded to, it’s to shed some light on what Gruden is thinking, what he thinks of Carr, etc. Same with other articles.
As for stating the obvious, you are misinformed if you think Gruden and Mayock are sold on Derek Carr. If you choose to believe that, no harm. My job isn’t to form your opinion, just to give you more information to base it upon. Thanks for the feedback, as always.
No Steve–you are wrong. You are selling a product here. I am not interested in your obviously biased opinions. I’m interested in an objective opinion, not something based on what you think you know (but have zero proof to defend). I’ve been following the Raiders since 1974 and I can smell a rat. You’ve been pissed at the Raiders and disparaging them for years. If it’s not Al Davis, it’s Gruden and now Carr, since he’s the low hanging fruit. Please cancel my subscription to this troll site immediately. Thank you very much and have a great life.
You are entitled to your opinion. Good-bye. Enjoy Raiders.com.
Max, I respectfully disagree with your assessment about Cork and his reporting. It is not a secret that Carr has detractors and that Gruden may be one of them. We are here to discuss our beloved Raiders. We may not agree, but the discourse helps us all.
From April 22, Cork’s position:
“Joe Burrow is going to the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 1, by all accounts. Once that goes down, it’s anyone’s guess as to where Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love go in the first round, if not later.
And, here’s where Gruden and Mayock have do make a tough decision, if they aren’t 100 percent sold on Carr as their franchise quarterback. Not mostly convinced. Not pretty certain. But 100 percent.
If they aren’t convinced, now is the time to go all-in on Herbert, Love or Tagovailoa, whichever one they like the most.
The reasons are: They are in a position to get one of those guys; they aren’t going to have a shot at Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 draft; and there aren’t any franchise types slated to hit free agency a year from now.”
So if Gruden and Mayock aren’t 100% sold on Carr, then they needed to make a move. Those were Cork’s words. They didn’t make a move, but now we’re STILL beating the drum saying they’re not sold on Carr? Seems like maybe Cork didn’t really believe what he was telling us then, since nothing about Carr has really changed since April.
Matt, with all due respect. Carr may not be the answer. He has been in the league six years and has really not done squat. So, yes, there are plenty of questions about him. He certainly does not have the win at all costs mindset that Gannon had. So, yes, it would seem that maybe Gruden is not all in on Carr. Of course, I have no insight, but Cork probably does, denigrating his reporting because you disagree is unfair. This site (and Cork) are very welcoming of many viewpoints and you are free to express yours. I welcome your viewpoints even if I disagree, but I think it not helpful to attack the reporter doing his job. Please let’s have a discourse about our team, respectfully.
No disrespect intended, Michelle. All I did was play back Cork’s own words. The whole thing is a quote except for the last paragraph. I don’t think that’s disrespectful discourse; rather it’s intended to point out that he must not have believed what he was saying at the time because Gruden/Mayock did exactly what he said they’d do only if they were 100% sold on Carr, yet he still says they aren’t.
The whole point really is this: there must certainly be a better topic to write about. This one has been beaten to death 10 times over.
Ditto plus 1
I think a lot of people on this site want carr to fail so they can be like I told you so. It’s starting to get painful reading what people are responding to. It’s pretty much a shame, just my 2 cents on it. I hope carr proves all the haters wrong this year and shuts everyone’s mouths. That’s my 2 cents. Rn4L
If u root against Carr u are not a Raid r r fan
Thank you Brian, couldn’t agree more
Chris, I don’t think any fans on this site are rooting against Carr. Doing so would mean you are rooting against the Raiders. However, there are a few of us who have soured on him being “the guy.” I have said many times, I hope Carr proves me wrong.
