At some point, teams are going to take the plunge and spend big to reel in the likes of defensive ends Jadeveon Clowney and Yannick Ngakoue, safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Logan Ryan. For the Raiders to get involved in any such move, it’s going to take a bit of financial-cap creativity. The Raiders currently

Williams is also a big contract for instance. Carr and Brown have the biggest but there are others that can be restructured. Reminds of a song called “Money’s Tight” by the group Simply Red….

I been laid off from work
    My rent is due
    My kids all need
    Brand new shoes
So I went to the bank
To see what they could do
They said son – looks like bad luck
    Got-a hold on you
    Money’s too tight to mention
    I can’t get an un-em-ploy-ment ex-ten-sion

The signing of Trent Brown to a massive contract is proving to be mistake. He was inconsistent and/or injured in SF, and then had one good year in NE—-surprise!—in his contract year. He missed 6 games last year (5 games inactive and 1 game where he played a single series). This year, he showed up to camp fat and unmotivated. And he’s the highest paid OL in history. As Gru & Mayock proved last year with AB, their free agency moves are far from perfect. Sure could use Trent’s $20+ million this year.
