The Raiders trading third-round draft pick Lynn Bowden Jr. garnered a lot of the attention Saturday on roster cutdown day. However, head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock made plenty of other news in purging the roster of 21 players. Once all the dust had settled, Gruden and Mayock got their first version
Reading more about Bowden, the Raiders did themselves a favor by trading him away. Obviously, the AB experience from last season had to be a factor in letting him go. Also, the ATF raid on his relative’s house, which turned up numerous assault-style weapons put a flag next to his name. On the football side, he just didn’t progress. At least, he had trade value.
I am surprised that Rico Gafford made the team over Keelan Doss. Kinda sucks for Doss, being cut twice by the Raiders in consecutive years. I am sure a team will grab him.
Strange situation with Bowden for sure. As David says, at least they got their original fourth round pick back for him. The Tweets of his I saw from the week made clear that he knew he was not likely to make the team.
The backup tackles concern me. If Miller or T. Brown are injured, its going to be a problem.
Only one backup tackle, and bad one at that, while keeping 3 DE backups?!
Just wondering – how many bad seasons do Parker and Morrow need to be cut?
