Kolton Miller’s selection at No. 15 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft was akin to pouring gasoline on the raging fire known as drafting for need over picking the best player available. The left offensive tackle was thought to be the lesser player on draft boards, and analysts and draft pundits alike, along with Raider
A lesson for all of us who drink the Kool-aid of draft pundits and media types. In most cases you’ve got to wait 2-3 yrs to see the real value of a pick.
Agreed.
Remember many on this board saying the Raiders should have drafted Derwin James? That Kolton Miller was a reach? That the Raiders could find a better LT? But, who’s been IR for the third straight season? Second straight season of missing the entire season? Derwin James. The better LT was drafted by the Broncos. Twice. Both of those better LTs are out of football.
Miller is a Prime example to wait for a player to develop vs snap judgment on whether he will succeed
I am guilty of being upset that the Raiders passed on Derwin James and drafted Miller, I was even angrier after Miller’s first year. I am happy to admit that I was wrong. Also, agree with everyone on here saying that a draft pick’s value is unknown for a couple of years. Yet, I still seem to fall into the “why’d we pick that guy” category after the draft!
AND…..he’s the only one other than Hudson that seems to show up and play every week.
Matt, if we are talking OL only then I agree… but there are players at other positions who give it their all every week: Jacobs, INGOLD, Waller and Renfrow give full value for the O.
Crosby, Mullen, Kwiatkowski, Abram and Ferrell (gives huge effort every play) set the tone for commitment on the D: I think this is the football character that Mayock and Gruden talk about so much and it just might be starting to show through.
Looks like the Bucs are about to sign AB – shame he won’t be playing Sunday so Abram could rip his head off…..
