The Raiders’ quest for a second victory over the Kansas City Chiefs came up short Monday night, but they showed once again that they can go blow for blow with the defending Super Bowl champs. And, who knows, the Raiders just might get another shot at the Chiefs later this season, in the first-round of
I have to say, I am disappointed by the loss only because the way the game ended raised my expectations slightly. This team is not going to go very far in the playoffs with a defense that allows an offense to go 75 yards in 75 seconds.
I do question the decision to go for the field goal when at the 1-yard line. I thought the team should have gone for the TD because FGs were not going to cut it.
The drops were unfortunate, but several Chiefs players had some key drops that helped us.
I started to get worried after the Chiefs had long scoring drives in the first half that meant our defense was on the field for too long. Then, our offense seemed to score a bit quicker meaning that the Chiefs had a decisive time of possession lead. Also, it seems to me that the defense missed Ferrell who is better at setting the edge against the run than Crosby.
Overall, good game for the offense not such a good game for the defense. If these two teams meet in the playoffs, it will be in the winter in KC. Maybe that will help the D like the conditions in Cleveland did?
Overall I was pretty happy with the Raiders performance. What can you say about Carr and the offence? Outstanding and kudos to the entire unit. That may have been Carr’s best performance of his career so far. Love the personnel on offence.
Defensively it’s been a train wreck all season and this game was no different. You just knew all game the only way the Raiders could win was for the offence to score late in the game giving the Chiefs no time to respond because that sad sack defence wasn’t going to make a play. They still need at least 5 new starters on defence in my opinion to be a viable playoff team.
Getting really annoyed with Abram who continually tries to be a hero making the big hit, chirping and causing skirmishes. It may impress Chris Collinsworth how he can fly recklessly into the backfield and miss a tackle but it doesn’t help the Raiders. He can start chirping when he is consistently making plays. Until then shut up and make tackles…even the ones not on highlight reels count!! Maybe he will figure that out one day.
Some really good things: Carr is consistently showing the best of himself behind an O line which is seriously impressive…. yes, that is Brandon Parker out there looking like a solid NFL Tackle and we are minimising the absence of Incognito and Brown. I really felt for Carr on a few of those drops – especially the third down drop at the end of the first half when we were looking for a 10 point lead, at the half, which would have been huge. (I agree with Michelle on going for fourth and one. Should have been first down on an obvious missed PI anyway – much worse than what Arnette did to Kelce and was flagged for).
Guenther’s defense….. especially Abram and his continuing boneheaded approach, designed to fire up opponents and lose all sympathy from officials. He needs to grow up and start contributing in a positive way.
No shortage of effort but idiocy from Abram often undermines the outcome. I think I really noticed the absence of Cle Ferrell – proof it’s not all about sack stats but who provides consistency and demands attention every play. I’ll be glad to see him back!
Gutted to lose to KC again, especially when we were so close and largely shot ourselves in the foot this time…..
Go Raiders – on to Atlanta!!
That was as good as I’ve felt after a loss as a Raider fan in many, many years. Despite our poor defense, we were right there, matching blow for blow with one of the best teams in the NFL. You could tell Carr and team were on a mission to make a statement. And they did, despite the loss. Got to feel good about the trajectory of this team. We just need the defense to catch up. With just one or two key stops, we would have been in control of that game. We are closer than we’ve been in decades.
