The last time Derek Carr played at an elite level, the Raiders made him the highest-paid player in NFL history. That contract now seems like a bargain, given how well he has played this season. The question is, will head coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock seek to extend Carr beyond the 2022

Carr has become an extension of Gruden on the field. That’s one of the biggest assets a QB can have.

It’s going to be extremely difficult to move on from Carr. Carr needed to up his game this season. He has done so and is playing at at top 10 QB level.

Having said that, I would wait until after next season to discuss contract extensions.

I’m pretty sure there were only a couple of us on this site that had the utmost confidence in carr from the beginning of the year!!!! I said he would show out this year just needed a little faith. Need to have a little patience on some of these guys that everyone wants to throw under the bus right away. The raiders are moving in the right direction. Have faith in gruden and mayock they got a plan and there sticking to it even if people don’t agree with there decisions. There’ll be misses along the way like Antonio but there’ll be more hits. Will win the super bowl in the next couple seasons. It’s gonna happen!!!!!! RN4L!!!!!!!!!!

Must be said that I had lost faith in Carr and made no secret of it as his play spiralled down from his (until now) career year in 2016. I never enjoyed that decline and genuinely hoped that 2016 guy was still in there somewhere as that is what we needed to become a posr-season threat.
It’s great for the team and obviously for Carr to be playing as well as he is and, for the record, I think he is actually playing better now than he did even in 2016. He is starting to draw comparisons with MVP level Rich Gannon in my mind.
I have no problem eating my huge humble pie right now as DC is making this team relevant and a viable threat to do some damage which is all i care about – but in a team where even Brandon Parker is looking like a real NFL player, Carr is not even the biggest surprise!
Whatever it takes: Just win baby!

Derek Carr is finally playing at a level many of us thought he could, but for some reason would not. I would be a bit hesitant to extend him after this season because he got his big contract after his last “good” season and then his play fell off a bit. I think it would be wiser to wait one more year and see how he plays next year before re-upping him.

The team will do what’s in the best interest of the team.
