How badly do the New York Jets covet Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence? Any doubt was removed by the way they turned a sure-fire victory into a jaw-dropping loss Sunday. To that, the Raiders say thank you. Down four with 13 seconds left in the game, no time-outs and little hope of beating the 0-11 Jets,
What a roller coaster, Ruggs goes from being the next DHB to maybe something else.
BUT it’s a W, counts just like the ones against the Saints and Chiefs – and we’ve all spent the last week talking about last year. This lifts a huge weight, so forget that now, we won….. bring on Old Man Rivers!!!
GO RAIDERS!!!!!
Management of horrible teams want to lose (ex. trading good players for draft capital). Coaches, after spending hours in preparation during the week, play to win. No coach wants to be associated with a winless team for their rest of their career. “Hey, you coached that winless Jets team in 2020, didn’t you?” In addition, coaches have to look their players in their eyes after a loss. Go into a locker room and look at your players eye -to-eye. You aren’t tanking.
Raiders barely squeaked by a winless team. Feels like a loss. Raiders aren’t playing a playoff caliber team, esp the defense. Defense is (fill in the blank.) Horrible is the adjective that comes to mind.
While some will lament the win, don’t. This is how championship teams win, in which they have played poorly all game long but somehow they eke out a win. This game falls into that category when the Raiders blew the lead.
Cork probably can recount that Raiders-Oilers MNF game better than I, Raiders were down three scores early fourth quarter, Stabler had already thrown four INTs and they were looking pretty awful. If you changed the channel like I did, thinking the Raiders didn’t have a chance, my reaction when learning the Raiders had won the game was disbelief. Stabler came alive, throwing three TDs, the defense stiffened. Then, there’s the famous Heidi game. Then, there’s the Raiders-Jets game from 1970. Raiders were very flat all game long, but stayed close. Lamonica threw a late TD pass to Warren Wells to win the game.
This game will become part of Raiders lore, “Remember when …”
Savor the win and move on to the next, the Colts and Ol’ Man Rivers.
I’ll second David’s sentiment. The Raiders played poorly and Gregg Williams clearly did not watch tape of what happens when this team needs a hail Mary (Carr usually dumps it short and then the team tries to lateral its way to the end zone). But, the team did enough to win and that is what is important. The team will need to continue to find ways to win to make the playoffs. Hopefully, this poor play will be out of their system by next week.
I do say that I am a bit perplexed as to why this team seems to struggle when it is on the door step of the end zone. Maybe dial up some plays with Mariota down there? Take advantage of his running ability and ability to ad lib plays?
This Tweeter account is getting old. Both couches will not be back next year what good would losing do them. Why not let the Raiders score the 1st time they had the ball with goal to go. They should have been able to get to Carr on the last play like they had all game. How about the clock running after the Raiders run the running back out of bounds. How about no pass interference on the ball to 15 the play before. Raiders beet the Jets and the #NFLrefsSUCK. We should have beat KC and lost this game maybe. But a win is a fing WIN in the NFL. Waller is a monster cover that
The perfect jump pass of over 53 yards by Carr was the best play i have seen all year.
Knowing what Raiders fans like us have gone through it’s hard to criticize a win. That said, I’ll do it anyway. Lol. What they showed yesterday is not anywhere near good enough for a playoff team. It’s amazing how one play changes everything. I wonder what people would have said today if that final pass had dropped incomplete to the ground. Or if the recently departed Gregg Williams had not called one of the dumbest defensive plays in decades to gift wrap the Ruggs touchdown.
I don’t feel any better about the Raiders as far as being a playoff team after yesterday. But it does feel good to steal a win from the jaws of defeat.
Maybe this win will propel them going forward. I hope so because they will need to play a lot better to beat the Colts.
Steve you are saying the games are fixed.
