Seattle Cover 3 or bust. That’s apparently the direction the Las Vegas Raiders defense is going with the hire of Gus Bradley as the new defensive coordinator. Bradley comes from the vaunted Seattle defensive coaching tree and is a disciple of the Seahawks’ Cover 3 (SC3) concepts. And it shouldn’t be surprising that Raiders head
A few thoughts:
Bradley is a safe choice. Raider fans just want a COMPETENT Defensive Coordinator and at least an average defense. We aren’t looking for a the 85 Bears defense to be revived.
For Bradley’s defense to work, you need front four pressure. Bradley doesn’t like to blitz often. Thus, Raiders need more pass rushers via FA and the draft.
Bradley’s defense also needs a sideline to sideline free safety since the strong safety plays near the LOS (Abram). Raiders will be in the market for such a safety.
Finally, word is Kris Richard wants to be a defensive coordinator. That’s why he sat out recently. He may go to LA if Garrett becomes HC there.
It’s good to know we have the new DC in place and I wish Gus Bradley all the very best in building us at least an average defense.
Looks like we will be focussing on the line and a top safety to get us to where the new DC will want to start building from…. he has left Bosa and Ingram behind and will see a real drop off in raw talent levels at rushing the passer in Vegas.
Here’s a question I have. Did Bradley have anything to do with vetting the talent on the teams he coached? The Seahawks, Jaguars, and Chargers defenses were talent rich when he was there. Also, did he have anything to do with making his personnel on the defensive side of the ball better?
The other pertinent question, Michelle, is, what kind of talent did Bradley have to work with at those stops. All the Raiders are getting is Gus Bradley, not Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram and Derwin James. It’s a fresh start, at least. Either way, Gruden and Mayock have to add more talent to that side of the ball, or else Bradley is going to find out what Guenther and Marinelli did in short order.
