The first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one. The Las Vegas Raiders have myriad issues that need resolution, and general manager Mike Mayock spoke directly about the team’s biggest concern. “The way we look at it, or at least the way I look at it, is last year we did not

Mayock is truly on the hot seat. FIVE 1st round draft choices and only 1 is a hit (Jacobs). The other 4 have either been not as productive, or just missing due to injuries.

Ferrell: No explosion. Very few sacks. I saw this at Clemson, with his lack of burst. How did Mayock not see this?
    Abrams: Undisciplined, poor coverage ability.
Ruggs: Low production given 1st WR taken
Arnette: Injured most of the time

Mayock will be the next scapegoat is Raiders don’t win. The question is how much authority he has, given Gruden’s power.

    Ghost, Excellent points.
Top 10 over all picks are where you need to take the best player available. Ferrell is not that player. Ferrell should have been selected at 24. Not at 4. Jacobs more than likely would have lasted till 27 or 28 where Abrams went.

At they should have taken Devin White, Josh Allen, or Ed Oliver.

Abrams is a poor mans Roy Williams- In the box Safety. That is not a high priority position in the NFL since the early 2000’s. Here is hoping Gus Bradley can develop Abrams into a steady playmaker and not a liability in the passing D.

Arnette will need to modify and correct his techniques in tackling RB’s on the edge. Hopefully the new Raider defensive coaching staff can help get this done in OTA’s and training camp.

Mayock needs to take best available football players. Stop trying to out smart others and switching players positions.

Feel Carr has reached his peak and Gruden cannot expect to get any more than what he got last season. Carr will not improve as an athlete. He is what he is.

Thinking the Raiders can get a very good, very athletic, very fast sideline to sideline type players at 17.

Good posts GTTP and Todd. I can’t argue with any of your points. I honestly think Gruden and Mayock absolutely blew the last two drafts. Under no standards can anyone say they did a good job. It was a disaster with all the draft capital they had. The fact they got one or two guys with “ok” production is irrelevant. They should be way further ahead.
