The Indianapolis Colts traded for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz on Thursday, but not before they reportedly checked with the Raiders about the prospect of trading for quarterback Derek Carr. Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star reported that the Colts called the Raiders and asked if they were interested in trading Carr. The Raiders, presumably

Pretty smart for the Colts to inquire about Carr. They just need some competence at QB to go back to the playoffs and maybe go far in them. They also have all of the “needs” (i.e. strengths in other areas) on the team that would make Carr have more success for the team. If the Raiders do move on from Carr, I would prefer them to have a replacement ready rather than go back into QB purgatory (the team is already in pass rusher purgatory).

Funny how some fans argue that Carr can’t lead the Raiders deep into playoffs or win the Super Bowl. Yet we’ve got a playoff-ready team like the Colts looking to sign Carr so he can do just that. Shows you what fans know.

Matt, you are missing the point. Carr isn’t going to get a team a win (let alone to the playoffs or a Super Bowl) on his own. He needs everything else around him to be good (and maybe great). The Colts are in that position now (much like the Bucs were last year), the Raiders are not.

Same holds true for every other QB on every other team….Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson and Watson included. My point is, Carr is good enough to take this team into the playoffs and win a super bowl. You just need a playoff caliber team to do it. So let’s build that and do it instead of trying to ship out Carr every offseason and think, naively, that we can just go get someone better and magically be a playoff team.

I respect your opinion, but disagree with you slightly. I think Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, and Watson are worth 1-3 wins per season on their own because they are that good and that talented. In other words, they can be a game changer/difference maker. Carr is not that, he is a solid QB, but he does not have the ability to change a game on his own.

And yes, I understand that the better the team around Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, and Watson, the easier it is for them to get wins.

Bottom line, I am a long time fan and I am sick and tired of watching this team be mediocre or middling. My patience is long past wearing thin.
