The Raiders tendered kicker Daniel Carlson in what counts as a huge win on a day in which they watched three of their other prospective free agents sign with other teams. Carlson was tendered at a second-round level, which means any team that offers him a contract is subject to the Raiders matching the offer

    The Raiders don’t like to have anyone productive on their roster so they had to move on from Agholor, it’s a franchise tradition. You knew that wasn’t going to be acceptable to have someone around who actually makes plays. Now the receiving corps is once again a grease fire outside of Renfrow. I’m sure the Raiders will replace Agholor with an anchor like a washed up AJ Green. Gruden loves his vets.

    The Raiders are going to have to make a lot of moves in free agency because honestly they have even more holes than last year now. I guess they filled one with Ngahoue but the jury is out on how much of an impact he will make.

    Raiders better sign a FA veteran WR. I’m not confident in relying solely on Ruggs and Edwards.

    By the way, Agholor wasn’t worth $13M per year.

      That’s hard to say. He clearly had chemistry with Carr and with another year in the system to grow he maybe becomes one of the better receivers in the league. I don’t like messing with chemistry, especially with the other guys like Ruggs and Edwards haven’t proven at all that they can be consistently productive.

      Right now the Raiders are sitting with a very questionable offensive line and a weak receiving corps. Now the Raiders have to address all of that while also fixing the defence. Good luck with that. Going into the offseason, the optimist in everyone said “offence looks good we only have to deal with the defence now”. Well, not anymore…we now have more holes than the golf course at Augusta on both sides of the ball.

      Is it fixable? Sure, but that’s assuming a competent management teams in doing it. Do we have that? So far I would say no.

      Hoping for the best but I’m not feeling it.

    Breaking my own self-imposed ban on comments while Gruden is still in charge but I need somebody to explain the genius’ master plan in releasing Rodney Hudson, please?

      Andy, I wish I had an answer for you. Cork and I had talked about who would be the total surprise in terms of who would be released. Cork said Rodney Hudson would be the top of any list, but didn’t think it was likely to happen. A total shocker. If you thought DC ran for his life when the pass blocking broke down, he’ll be running for his life now, literally. If Kolton Miller is released too, then it’s back to a total rebuild.

      If something else is at play, that no one knows, this is a wholesale dismantling of the team.

        David, I wasn’t seriously expecting any logic or rationale. Only in my darkest dreams was this even possible.
        Rodney has been our best player for some years now, only recently caught by Waller in those stakes and it is going to hit our cap to cut him loose!
        Would there have been no trade market for him if the brains trust decided to get rid? I find that almost as tough to believe as the news of what has happened.
        Stunned…

          Reading on, Andy, there are reports of cash flow problems with the Raiders. They asked Hudson if he would waive $3.9M in guaranteed money from last year’s contract restructure. He said no, adding he would like to be released in his reply. In releasing him, the Raiders saved $10M, which they can apply the savings to rookie contracts or FA signings. Savvy business move? I have no idea. Apparently squeezing from the O-line starters for money seems to be the Raiders plan. They’re trying to have Jackson to play for $6M rather than $9.6M he’s due. Incognito, $2M rather than $4M. Trent Brown, traded, so no problem there.

    Cork, you and I had talked about who would be a total surprise if a player would be released. You said it would be Rodney Hudson. Well, it happened. What is the Raiders thinking on this one? A total rebuild of the O-line? Releasing Hudson is not exactly cutting a marginal player.

      Yep, that came to mind when the news broke. Most stunning, though, is the report that Hudson asked to be released. That doesn’t bode well for Gruden, who boasted of players “dying to play for the Raiders.” So, just when is that going to manifest itself in players flocking to the desert? Tough to figure out what’s at work here. On the surface, though, it makes sense to part ways with your best player.

        If the report that he asked to be released is true, why were the Raiders in such a rush to do so?

        It certainly does not help with the cap since, instead of any relief, there is an immediate cap hit of $2 mm above what Hudson would count for if he stayed.

        The only economically justifiable scenario would have been a post-June 1 trade that would’ve resulted in a $9.9 mm cap relief and $3.7 mm of dead cap money.

    Hudson has not been jettisoned. The cap savings was minimal.

    Either he became a locker room problem and they wanted him out or he just had enough. And they cut him. Couldn’t be about his performance or money.

    What kind of rinky dink clownshow bozo act is in change of this mess? I’m looking higher than Gruden now, and looking straight at Mark Davis. What the hell is going on??

    May as well cut Waller now too while they are at it. They are going back to 3-13 next year anyway. All the building blocks are gone. What a slap in the face to all of the Raiders fans who have been patient with this franchise all these years…and put this team back in the dumpster AGAIN. The Raiders are the laughing stock of the NFL and for sure the worst franchise.

    Why would ANY player want to play in Vegas now? I’m betting Yannick is already planning his escape route…because no players have a chance of success here…zero.

    If I am Derek Carr, I am demanding a trade just like Watson.

    On top of all the other holes that need to be filled they create a new one, all while sitting pat in the free agent market???!!! Wow!!!

    Did he have an affair with a wife of someone in the management?

    Let’s put this idiocy in perspective.

    With Hudson cut, the count of missing starters on the Raiders roster has just risen to EIGHT!!! With unproven crew of DBs and suspect LBs, we are talking complete dismantling of the team and yet another major overhaul.

    In the fourth year of Gruden’s reign! And we all know how stellar is the Gruden’s record in talent evaluation and personnel decision-making.

    To be specific, in addition to 4 starters the Raiders still need on the defense:
    – Interior pass-rushing linemen, a.k.a. 3-technique DT in 4-3 system;
    – Interior run-stuffing linemen, a.k.a. 1-technique DT in 4-3 system;
    – Free safety;
    – Slot cornerback;
    they now need 4 starters on the offense as well:
    – Right tackle;
    – Right guard;
    – Center;
    – Left guard.

    Realistically, in the 2021 NFL Draft, the most they could hope for is to acquire one, maybe two instant starters. That leaves 6 or 7 to be acquired via free agency or trades.

    Yet, they’re letting others take both the excellent and the very good options that were affordable in free agency. Now they are left to scrape the bottom of the barrel…
