Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock were active in both the shipping and receiving departments when it came to roster moves when the league year kicked off March 17. The Las Vegas Raiders head coach and general manager, respectively, aren’t likely to get a break anytime soon as free agency continues and April’s NFL Draft is
Right tackle is the only position where the Raiders have a gaping hole that has some solid veteran FA starters still available – Schwartz and Wagner.
Perhaps it would’ve been informative if the article explained why the right tackle position was not worth considering.
Deep draft
Have you actually looked at how deep and strong the draft indeed is at the RIGHT tackle position? Can you name a few right tackle candidates that would be immediate NFL starters?
Didn’t think so. None of them can come close to Schwartz and Wagner.
Is the idea to be patient for another three years till such a draftee develops? Relying on Gruden’s proven ability to evaluate and pick talent in the draft and then develop it?
Good luck with that.
The depth at the tackle position is widely reported. You’d rather sign a 31 year old tackle coming off a serious back injury? You’re just being funny, I’m sure. There’s a reason he’s still out there.
Left tackle – yes.
Right tackle – no.
Okay, granted. I’m assuming most top left tackles can move to right tackle. Doesn’t always work the the other direction, though.
Drafting an LT to switch to RT is a development project and Raiders need an immediate starter, since Parker is far from it.
Raiders have sat idle in free agency while a number of affordable younger RTs in their prime have been signed by other teams – most notably, M. Feiler and G. Ifedi. Given that there is still no effort to sign an RT starter, despite the free agency still offering a higher quality of players at that position than on the others addressed in the article, I was wondering why Ray ignored the issue completely.
With every passing day it becomes clearer that the Raiders have apparently decided not to address the right tackle position in free agency.
It may be funny to you, but without addition of a veteran starter at RT, Carr will be nowhere near his 2020 level, and the running game as well. With such drop in offensive performance, entirely self-inflicted, Raiders will revert back under .500.
