With Erik Harris gone and Jeff Heath past his prime, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is in the market for a safety to pair opposite Johnathan Abram. Against all odds, that player just might be one Gruden let walk a year ago in free agency: Karl Joseph. On Thursday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that
Steve, please explain how does Joseph (who is a strong safety) help fill the biggest hole in the secondary the Raiders have at the moment – free safety that Bradley’s defense would require?
They might save some cap space by signing him at a veteran minimum while cutting Heath, to serve as Abrams backup, but that makes the FS hole even bigger, since Heath could serve as a backup there.
Agree. Joseph is depth; not a solution.
